Not WB, but Marvel/Disney is. Not sure how NYT and Amazon charts play into this, since majority of comic sales go through Diamond anyway. Probably some correction will be in order once July numbers are in, but so far it does not look to be making any kind of splash really. Really interested to see how the film does in China and Japan. Have a small doubt about optimistic Japan prospects. Is Japan that eager to see GDT (or anyone else, for that matter) playing around with their very own tropes (tokusatsu/mecha)?

Talk about wishful thinking. Pac Rim GN was #16 on June trades list with 2,963 est. units sold. Less than stellar.

Magnificent Seven was doing gangbusters at Soviet BO. Stagecoach, too. So yea, they could. And I'm guessing selling point for Mackennas Gold was Omar Sharif, not Peck. He was totally hot in those days.

GU2 WW topping PR WW would be hilarious and abominable at the same time.Considering the investments that went into each movie, though, financial and otherwise, it should be little consolation if PR ends up over GU2.. Also, Sandler is not a strong draw OS. Not that modernized creature features are, as turns out.

Not a given. Opened solid in SK and Russia, yes. Likely to be big in China and should do fine in Japan.Everywhere else #s are meh at best; UK OW is $3.3m, that's below AE opening.Reaching $400 WW could be a bumpy ride.

2nd wknd for PacRim looks like $16-17 max with this Tue #. This and TLR could post similar final DOM numbers, all said and done. Not good at all. For either.

What does it have going for it? Trailer was sorta meh, and Damon is not much of a draw.

After reading this, for example, the impression is more than a few big movies go completely out of control in the course of production but that's sort of snafu thing.

Actually, WB carries marketing costs + 25% of PR's PB.

Yea, the acknowledged figure is $190m with some estimates going up to 220m. But for a movie that was tracking 30ish on like Tue, has relatively low TC, and all the complications PR carries, opening anywhere above $40mil is defying general expectations. Not that it can't surprise like WWZ few weeks ago, but it has fewer avenues to success.

Anything over 40 mil is a fantastic success for PR.

Yep, Thursday is the day new movies roll out in Russia, and I'm in the country right now, so thought "Why not?" and went with a 10AM screening (local time). There were like 40 people in a 200-230-seat theatre, which is probably not bad at all, given time of day. Almost exlusively male, skewing younger. Wait, I did count two girls, who probably agreed to accompany their bfs in exchange for TLR or something like that The film was machismo all around, so don't get your hopes too high)
