  1. I honestly don’t think people understand how the younger gen that is the target demo for this thinks. If the film gets a bloodbath of bad reviews and they having a way to watch the film that doesn’t involve them going to the movie theaters, they will. Yes, there is a part of the fan base that will go no matter what, yes the pre-sales were impressive so far, but they were still been taking in consideration how the film would be received. I don’t doubt this is getting a sequel, that sequel might be the one that actually works, but as we speak half of the film is already on Twitter with cam rips. Tomorrow not even cam rips would be necessary. And I’m always very cautious with the idea of saying fans will watch it ‘no matter what’. It isn’t like this with Marvel and they have an insane built in audience, it would be like that with a niche videogame franchise? I just don’t see it.
  2. The embargo only lifts tomorrow so yeah, that’s likely the reason it was taken down from RT. What is funny is that the film is already out in UK and that’s why we are getting some scattered reviews. It’s going to be a bloodbath tomorrow. Also people are ignoring that the hardcore fan base for this are teenagers. It doesn’t really matter if no one has Peacock. Life finds a way and what not. The film is embargoed even after it’s officially out in the UK, yes. Peacock this midnight iirc.
  3. It was obvious since it was announced the movie would be streaming on Peacock even before the film was on movie theaters. Never mind second weekend drop, I fully expect it will underwhelm this OW as well. The way that people ignored the warning signs and at same time fell for fake impressions was funny to see.
  4. https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cyy4Y0EyRmj/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== I preordered this. Interesting that Breznican is the one who write it, I remember reading his in depth articles for Entertainment Weekly back in the day.
  5. I’m gonna say this: I’m 100% on SAG-AFTRA’s side. But I’m not a Fran Drescher fan. And I sincerely doubt that a lot of union members don’t feel that way as well. It doesn’t really matter if they are part of the top echelon or not. I kinda dislike the idea of complete rejection of anything trades say either as part of ‘the enemy’ speaking. It reminds me the kind of talk of certain political leaders that always put into question what is being said as rigged and what not. Drescher deserves acknowledgment and praise if they manage a good deal, but I don’t like the idea of shielding her of any sorts of criticism and creating a paranoia sentiment from the trades. Yeah they speak through studios, but we need someone credible doing the reporting. If anything, this shows that there is a necessity for more independent trade reporting, but what we have in place shouldn’t be discredited just to ‘stick to the man’. The public is with SAG-AFTRA, not with the studios. But absolutely no one is free of criticism.
  6. I’m pretty sure that that post is bullshit. I just pointed out because believe it or not, people do look to the posts here on BOT as credible. When shit like that goes unchecked and it’s simply thrown around with no push back, it’s not just bad for the film itself, but BOT’s reputation as well. I post here for more than 10 years, so yeah I kinda think it’s important to keep some level of credibility here, we already have too many places spreading fake info as is.
  7. So yeah, take this with huge amounts of salt: I would discard this right away, but this account is followed by an old timer here from BOT that follows me on Twitter, so who the hell knows. If anyone is willing to check out, here is the heads up.
  8. So… take this with huge amounts of salt: I would straight discard this, if I didn’t notice something: this account is followed by Simone, an Italian old timer that used to post here on BOT. Do we have any of the Australia regulars around here? @DeeCeelives in Australia, right? @Robertron? Could you check around that?
  9. We used to be a lot more cautious with this kind of thing thrown around, that’s all I’m saying. I don’t care if it’s registering to say they loved or hated this film or any other, we actually have people with credible info that come here from time to time, I feel like Twitter slowly becoming a dumpster fire bigger than it was ten years ago proved to be a source of disinformation to everything, including film discussion. Film is almost two weeks away, we will know if it’s good or bad soon enough. I do think that Disney / Marvel Studios are doing a terrible job dictating the discourse on this film though. Yeah I get that there is a strike going on, but it’s a SAG-AFTRA strike. Where is Nia DaCosta? Where is Kevin Feige? I feel like in a time like this, I know who to follow to know more about Loki than I do about The Marvels. I feel like social media is more to blame for the toxic discourse surrounding the MCU and most of all particularly this film. I just wish that Marvel Studios people would be more active giving us info about this film release and the next. Yeah, Twitter is a mess, but allowing the trolls to dictate the narrative isn’t helping.
  10. I have no idea about how much it’s going to do on RT score. I am intrigued with Davis saying that there are surprises though. He doesn’t usually hype this kind of thing out of nowhere. It’s a pointless exercise to try and predict RT film scores, it fluctuates too much unlike videogames MC scores.
  11. I just wanna say that this post of yours: This is peak BOT. I’m curious, where do you heard about this? Reddit? Twitter? Or are Marvel Studios filming in Goiás, Brazil? It’s not lost on me that you kept insinuating that I was ‘attacking’ Scorsese on the weekend thread when I was talking about a serious topic. All I’m saying is: what you say about me, take a good look at your own actions. The pettiness is what levels down the discourse here, it’s the personal attacks, the insinuations. You don’t know how much faith Disney has or has not in this film. You don’t have ‘sources’, and acting like you do doesn’t help anyone. We actually have (had) people that work in the industry, some actually at Marvel Studios around here. Just don’t act like you have some sort of privileged info.
  12. I didn’t. And Quantumania opened above expectations, even for me iirc. It fell from a cliff later. This just proves that clearly there is no discussion here, just Marvel = bad.
  13. Maybe Marvel is not terrified and people on this thread are absolutely nuts and assuming that the sky is falling since the thread started? I don’t know, just a thought.
  14. We don’t know what the strategy is here. We don’t even know if that’s the date the review embargo lifts as of yet. I think Marvel is on waiting mode this week to see if the deal goes through and schedule the premiere. It’s clearly not optional, but Davis usually gets access to early screenings because of Fandango and he doesn’t seem all doom and gloom on it. The problem of being doom and gloom all the time on this thread is that even if the films opened beyond expectations, people here would still find an angle to say it’s not that great really. Looking at Erik’s tweet itself, this seems like good news to me.
  15. Today @Zakiyyah6 said that he couldn’t imagine people wanting Marvel Studios to release early reviews. Then now Erik Davis shows up apparently giddy about The Marvels saying that reactions are apparently coming Nov 7 with reviews Nov 8 and now rumors they heard online the prognostic is that the film isn’t good. My head is hurting from the weekend thread because hypocrisy is one thing that pisses me off but I’m going to say this: I talk about film because I love film. Blockbuster escapism is my comfort food for reasons I won’t enlist here. Here’s hoping the film delivers and studios finally pay their actors what they deserve. It would be amazing get to see these 3 promoting this film.
