Yep, I was firmly in the “under 400 million” even with 150 million, it’s just that 148 just bring it a tiny bit further away from 400 million. Oh and looool at no competition when an MCU film is opening in 10 days which will probably have great reviews and surprise , as it almost always happens , with it ow and its overall run. Anyway I just don’t expect good legs for this in the U.S , have said so before it’s release and it’s a strictly personal opinion based on my perception about the quality of the film. Could be wrong, I don’t have a strong conviction when it comes to these things.

Yep, as I immediately wrote after the estimates the 150 million number was suspect to say the least. 400 million basically dead and feeling really good about my 1.1 billion WW estimate , even with the underestimation of the os result which happens with every big film overseas. Kind of cute for universal to first announce the WW gross and then the U.S actual number .

Not a bad way to spend 2 hours at the movies. The first one was decent though John Wick kind of destroys it. The original tv show was great too.

I didn’t like the film but I actually agree with you on your main point, there was no war in a movie called “WAR for the planet of the apes”. The whole movie felt like a fart in the wind to me and a very poor ending to the trilogy so poor that I didn’t even care for its “sad” ending, if it was even sad cause I never felt that attached to the apes. Not a big fan of the whole apes concept anyway though I found dawn surprisingly good....

Doing what exactly ? I predicted 1.1 billion for this WW and I believe it will be pretty close to that . I NEVER predicted sub-100 million ow in the U.S , or sub-1 billion WW or whatever. I predicted a big drop WW from the first film, and it’s happening. My only remaining prediction is bad legs and not reaching 400 million in the U.S, that remains to be seen.

I really doubt JW3will increase, universal marketed increased stakes in JW2 too, Nevermind that the marketing was misleading. The direction they seem to be going for the third film is stupid and the years until the third film is released won’t be kind , when it comes to the GA perception of the second film. I see another sizable drop for the 3rd film (and then we will have all the people predicting an increase trying to convince us how great the 3rd film is doing).

Yeah universal did a good job rebooting it. If only they had done such a good job with their dark universe

It’s going to have approx. the same kind of drop in the U.S market.

But most, if not all, films with very strong presales are breaking records. Maybe a film comes once in a while that does better than its presales are showing but presales are usually a good metric to judge how a film will open and very strong presales separate the films that will open “nice” (like JW2) from the films that will have monstrous openings like TLJ, IW and even I2 (for an animation film).

Yeah because blue aliens is what is missing to spice up the box office . Well maybe we will see them again in this lifetime or maybe not 😀

Are you suggesting that presales don’t matter ? This didn’t even come close to movies with strong presales like TLJ, IW,BP, I2 e.t.c. I guess it beat solo

It seems to matter to universal if they are giving an EXACT 150 million. Hey maybe it even goes up a bit with actuals, who knows, but yeah it does matter for the time being. Anyway good opening, slightly better than what I expected (I thought around 140 million) , now the legs of this thing will be interesting to watch.

I don’t get it , isn’t every number an estimate or is it just the sunday number ?

Universal sure was fast to report that EXACT 150 million estimate, let’s see if it holds with the actuals.

It has to really overperform in the U.S (over 450 million) and I don’t see it. It’s not like it’s a huge difference 1.1-1.2 billion so it could happen, but as things are right now it seems quite difficult to me. Good legs in Europe so late in its run won’t really offer that much and in China it’s going for what 230-250 million total, needs a very good hold in the U.S and it could happen I guess just like the opposite could happen with JW2 having really bad legs in the U.S.

In that case I hope JW2 does over 2 billion....😋

It’s not like there will be much juice left in it after next week. Already out in most os market for ages it will be close to the end of its run in most markets earning pennies onwards with the U.S contributing most of its remaining grosses. 1.1 billion is what I think, but still waiting on the domestic legs, not convinced about them at all.

One look at the JW2 o/u IW thread which is on the second page of the forum is more than enough to see what everyone was predicting, it’s hilarious that some people are acting as if their previous posts have disappeared.

I am always talking worldwide not just taking a narrow viewpoint about the u.s ow. So the Reimi spider man sequels, the first 4 transformers films, the first 4 POTC films, the f&f films (though fotf dropped but not as bad as TLJ or JW2), the Lotr films, the Harry Potter films , the avengers films e.t.c Both TLJ and JW2 will have historic , over 500 million , worldwide drops.

So with an 145, give or take, million ow for JW2 I am curious what kind of legs do people “that aren’t disappointed” see this film having . Just how much a drop overall from the first film would be seen as disappointment, 250 million, 300 million, 350 million ?

I’d say the chances of JW2 reaching 400 million in the U.S (a number that it would easily pass according to most people celebrating) is about zero after the Friday number. A realistic target would be between 370-380 million, a nice almost 300 million drop from the first.

Actually I am not disappointed with JW2, I hated the film and the worse it does the better. I wasn’t even disappointed with IW after the first impression of its gigantic ow worn off hense my posts becoming more positive about its bo performance. Funny thing for all the talk about how MCU fans were angry at JW beating AOU I wasn’t , and you won’t find a post of mine whining about it since I liked JW and thought its performance as a pleseant surprise. JW2 can go to hell for all I care though, bottom of the barrel blockbuster....

Why are you telling Baumer what to do ? I have “known” him since before you knew what the internet is, for almost 20 years, and he actually has good reading comprehension skills even if we disagree. I said I expected more after it’s huge worldwide opening weekend and so did many people , again the posts are there for all to see.
