  1. So there's both too many adult targeted movies now and too few? Lol. People have blamed the the poor performance of a lot of films like The Walk, Steve Jobs and Crimson Peak on the fact that the market is saturated with adult driven films. The fact that The Martian is still kicking ass in its 4th week is actually more impressive considering how many other movies came out gunning for the same target demo.
  2. Lol I don't get how American Sniper (which was 2014's #1 film) being in the Top 5 this year makes 2015 a weak year?
  3. Leo must be giddy watching the box office report this weekend. Lol. It it really is his to lose now. The Revenant just needs a good reception and not flop. I don't see any of the other contenders as win possibilities right now. Redmayne wasn't even the most praised part of his film, which is getting a meh reception as it is.
  4. The reviews for Steve Jobs declined considerably since it's initial festival run. Its director isn't a big name to people. It's lead actor has terrible levels of recognition among the general public (lol @ Aaron Sorkin calling it in the email leaks). The reviews are good but not TSN great.
  5. Anything in the $200 million ballpark is already a huge success. What I wonder is what the WW total will be by the end of its run. It has huge potential to do well in China given the star power and them featuring prominently in the story but it does open right after Mockingjay2.
  6. Yeah, this just tells you how little the initial platform release means in the long run. This probably would've benefited from a later release date so it could use its awards nominations to advertise it to the general audience, but then Dec/Jan will be insane this year with SW. It also didn't get the kind of once in a blue moon raves that The Social Network got.
  7. Cooper is basically the executive who helps Joy get on the home shopping TV stuff, so probably just in the latter parts of the movie.
  8. Remember that they are comparing the interest of the film to itself before and after the actors were mentioned. It's not saying that Bill Murray film had high interest to begin with, just that interest went up once his name was brought up.
  9. Well, why is a well-received movie about a super famous dead guy and with Oscar buzz flopping when this weekend's output is literally all garbarge?
  10. Plus.. “MacBeth,” an adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Scottish Play” with Marion Cottilard and Michael Fassbender, saw it score plunge 23.5% when its stars were listed alongside the film."
  11. They did some study/polling re: Hollywood stars and their ability to draw an audience. Fassbender was one notable name who, when the questioner mentioned that he was in a particular film, made the interest in the film decrease rather than increase.
  12. They probably shouldn't have hired Michael Fassbender, a guy who actually makes moviegoers less likely to see a film after they find out he's in it!
  13. Umm Craig is aging like a bruised peach and no one cares but casting a great looking woman over 50? No!
  14. A lot of schools/colleges have a whole week off for Thanksgiving so its weekdays will be inflated a bit.
  15. My main issue with Vesper, despite a great performance by Eva Green, is that by the end of the film, the main takeaway I got from her character is that she literally cannot do her job because all she cares about is saving these dudes/love interests in her life. As for the conversation about why Ferguson in MI5 is given a pass, I felt like her character showed that she was a fully competent agent who was going to do her job no matter what and that felt like a more respectful portrayal to me as a woman.
