  1. A Dory-like internal multiplier would mean a 272m OW. Obviously that’s probably not happening. But if I2’s IM is even half as good as Dory’s it breaks the animated OW record, and half would only be a 7.3 (which plays more like a DC or Star Wars movie) Something in between, like 10x is good enough to get it to 185m
  2. There’s also not been a real family film out this year (well besides AWIT and Peter Rabbit but you get the point), so I think it could balance out with families being ready to go to the theaters
  3. Gosh, EmpireCity really picked a bad month to get himself banned. I want some preview numbers
  4. Low teens with a Dory like internal multi would mean somewhere in the 180m+ stratosphere (if you’re meaning like 14-15m)
  5. Can we just start a weekend thread now? Also, just rewatched the first one. It’s a great movie and holds up really well. Actually held up much better than the last time I rewatched Nemo
  6. Just got back from Incredibles 2 with the kids, they loved it! What, Coolio’s married? How weird just to drop that information out of the blue.
  7. Could this be the first animated movie to open over 200m??
  8. MY 180m OW PREDICT IS HAPPENING GUYS!!! YEEHAW LET’S GO
  9. BOM is predicting 150m+ and Disney’s lowball is over 120m-130m Probably just a pretty big lowball
  10. I hate the Twitter memes that are intentionally focused on acting like a shitty person. The memes where people are taking pictures of Millie Bobby Brown and putting homophobic and racial slurs on them as if she said them because she ‘doesn’t Stan Mariah Carey’ is despicable behavior. or there’ll be a post about somebody saying to say offensive slurs, and the feed will then be filled with people calling the OP different slurs. I think it’s more of the general toxicity of the internet, but I wish the major sites like Twitter and Facebook did more to not tolerate that kind of behavior.
  11. How come there’s not a weekend thread up yet? Solo, Ocean’s 8, Deadpool 2 and AIW all had theirs up quite early
  12. That’s what I got out of it. A lot of the nuances of the more mature Pixar stuff may not translate as well outside of English.
  13. Please don’t associate what I said with saying there shouldn’t be a push for diversity and that discrimination in the workplace isn’t an issue. Thats not what I said at all, in fact I’m pretty staunch at pushing for more diversity within different white male dominated industries. I simply disagreed with Larson’s approach
  14. Natalie Portman was right, there should be more female representation. That wasn’t shade at the directors nominated, or saying they should stop directing. It was shade at the industry for not giving more opportunities to female directors, and shade at the HFP for choosing not to nominate any of the female directorial talent from that year. There’s a slight difference there, but it’s important because it’s enough to give off two entirely different end results. One is promoting diversity by shoving people out so the current diversity is highlighted (and thus no new voice are brought in, there’s only a relative increase in diversity) and that’s what I got from Brie Larson’s message. The other is advocating to include more diversity, or bringing in more diversity (in which you get an actual quantitative increase in the amount of diversity). In other words, one gives off a message of exclusion, the other gives off a message of inclusion. I think society’s better off if we push for the inclusive message.
  15. Lol, the reviews are definitely better than Dory. 94% and 8.0 Avg is really good
  16. I think it’s more of the delivery. It sounds more like she’s telling existing critics to shut up instead of encouraging new voices to speak up. The message to increase diversity in different industries is good. The message to shut people up already working in those industries in counterproductive. I think more problems are caused when you come across as trying to discourage any group of people to work in an industry. I thought it was a harmful approach with good reasons behind it
  17. Brie Larson’s comment is an example of what gives fuel to MRA and Alt-Right movements. The focus shouldn’t be on trying to shut up the current old white critics and let the minority/women critics talk. The focus should be on empowering more minorities and women to give their opinions as critics. We shouldn’t focus on trying to deligitmize the opinions of others in order to increase representation. It’s counterproductive Also, if Larson’s comment was legit, then you wouldn’t see movies like Moonlight, Hidden Figures, Black Panther, etc receive raves from all critics.
