Phil Lord and Chris Miller Appreciation Thread!
The Panda replied to Vanilla's topic in The Speakeasy
Sadly, they have nothing. -
I disagree. While I'm sure Tom Holland is more true to the comics as Spider-Man (I did prefer his portrayal of the character and how it felt like he was an actual high schooler compared to Maguire), Raimi's films are endlessly more memorable. Their effects feel slightly dated now, but they were great and whole feeling films. I never got that timeless feeling from TASM series or Homecoming.

War For the Planet of the Apes (2017)

The place they ended up was Mt Saint Helens, so that screws with the geography even more. The only thing I can think is this is a different continuity, and so maybe the Statue of Liberty wont be the landmark but the Golden Gate Bridge? -

Another interesting thing to point out was that it was Caesar's mercy and ultimate refusal to give into the killing, or war, that killed him. He ends up offering mercy at every pivotal moment where he could have chosen not to, and the man who shot him is the man he spared. -
It's performing like a normal frontloaded MCU movie. It's the 6th installment of a franchise that features a character from another popular franchise, of course it's going to be frontloaded. Like I said last week, anybody who thought this was getting a near 3x+ multi was setting themselves up for disappointment.

Technically Batman could be coming off two (or three if you count SS), depending how JL is received. I think people are looking for more fresh and new looking concepts and films, and not necessarily following the tomatometer and superheroes. Franchise Fatigue is proving to be a thing, and you can tell it's slightly playing a role with Spidey, even with it being a unique take with Iron Man.

There was another Messiah-like analogy with Harrelson's character, how he mentions he kills his son to save humankind. It's kind of a backwards look at it, because it ends up only showing him to be somebody to be pitied.
