  1. That you even bring up Avatar and Titanic... as if it was ever not safe...Avengers as well if we are talking strictly domestic.
  2. Kids will care the least about the shooting. If it's anyone, it's the parents.
  3. Sure but it's already playing in many markets, big ones as well. ROTK made almost that much (26m) in one day.
  4. Well, no. Pointing towards OS numbers. $26m in 2 days? ROTK made about that much in one day.
  5. How is $180m even remotely possible with these kind of numbers? Variety's $135m will be much closer.
  6. Just can't imagine it coming anywhere close to $120m based on OS numbers. LOTR / Hobbit was supposed to be much bigger OS. Something's fishy.
  7. The midnights were very wide and advertised in the latest TV spots. Let's see how frontloaded it is.
  8. Let's wait for friday numbers. Maybe it'll drop.
  9. It's more than 3 countries. From Europe to Asia, results are tepid, except maybe Scandinavia.
  10. Really? I wasn't. For an original movie it opened great. And Hobbit is a prequel, it'll be much more frontloaded.
  11. 5 day opening (admissions)2,239,684 LOTR12,634,701 LOTR22,666,776 LOTR3
  12. Every TV spot said the 13th is the release date for some reason. That must have been a big factor in the rather tepid OD and pretty much no drop on Thursday.
  13. Give some other movies for comparison. How did the LOTRs do?
  14. I'm hearing low presales from Japan, too. Courtesy of Corpse.
  15. Yeah, forgot FR (or Paris rather). That's really weak for LOTR standards.
  16. Except AUS and CHN, pretty much every market opened on wed or will open on thu. I base my conclusion on supposedly (i trust it the poster didn't just talk out of his ass) weaker than expected presales in UK and Germany and the fact that despite a decade of inflation and 3d it didn't top ROTK's OD in NZ.
