  1. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/kirk_camerons_saving_christmas/
  2. I figured if church groups of 10 went to see it in big numbers the same way they saw other religious movies this year it could have made 3-4 million this weekend.
  3. The demographic groups against gay rights are usually the same Evangelical/Fundamentalist groups that believe there is some conspiracy or war on Christmas. They get upset when people say Happy Holidays or Season's Greetings instead of saying Merry Christmas 100% of the time.
  4. Any word on any Friday numbers for Kirk Cameron's bizarre movie about the supposed war on Christmas? I'm not a fan of his, but am just curious. Did not see it in the top 10. Thought maybe the anti-gay rights crowd would show up in groups of 10 and make this movie have a weekend of 3 or 4 million.
  5. Even though DADT is over-performing expectations this weekend, I still don't see it having good legs. Flixster score is going to drop (down to 62% now), Hunger Games coming Thursday, and a zillion movies being released in December. Looks like a situation where it goes 37/97
  6. I will be impressed if Dumb and Dumber To opens in the uppers 30s. I predicted only 30 OW because I assumed that audiences from 20 years ago who loved them are generally getting too old for that kind of stuff. Many of them now have kids of their own and would take them to Big Hero instead, or they are part of the over 30 audience who is eating up Interstellar.
  7. But it has been 20 years. Does that target audience still care enough about this after 20 years?
  8. Is Dumb and Dumber 2 still going to open above 30 million even with the poor reviews? 29% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 36 on Metacritic....will the target audience for this still show up in the same way the Grown Ups movies audience will show up no matter what the reviews are?
  9. Maybe a box office total similar to Left Behind of around 15 million? Apparently it is only in theaters for 3 weeks.
  10. How many screens will Kirk Cameron's crazy religious movie about saving Christmas be on this weekend? About 500-700 or so?
  11. Gonna be a close finish between Interstellar and Divergent at the domestic box office. Who would have guessed that a month ago?
  12. Going to be a neck and beck battle between Interstellar and....uhh....Divergent for the bigger hit at the domestic box office.
  13. Raw video of argument taking place right now between Christopher Nolan, McConaughey, and Warner Brothers chief executive over Interstellar's weak OW of 50 million. Looks like the chief executive is getting a little tired of Nolan's 2 hour and 45 minute running times.
  14. Not surprising at all....the tracking was somewhere in the 50s for Interstellar and that's where it will end up.
  15. Gone Girl continues to crush it....it will end up finishing with 300 million WW on only a 55-60 million dollar budget.
  16. Pretty much the news is that Gone Girl is still crushing it - likely to finish at 150 domestic. Now the focus shifts to RT reviews for Interstellar this week and predicting what kind of OW it will have.....
  17. I'm not against having kids/family movies released once in a while. Personally, I think How to Train Your Dragon 2 could deserve a Best Director nomination to go along with the likes of Foxcatcher and Birdman, but I know that will never happen. But over the course of year, there are simply too many of them. We even have Big Hero coming up after Book of Life. It is just overload. The target/median age of the movie industry used to be people in their 30s....then it was people in their 20s (probably in the horror age days of Jason/Freddy, etc.)...and now it is down to 15 year old mallrats.
  18. Glad to see that Gone Girl is crushing it with only a 55 million dollar budget. Hopefully it can end up with at least 140 domestic / 250 worldwide. I'm starting to get sick of the fact that there are so many tentpoles and sequels filling up the screens aimed at kids and teenagers. I mean, even now the theaters are filled to the brim with kids' movies (Dolphin Tale 2, Boxtrolls, Alexander and the Terrible, Book of Life, etc.)
  19. 86% of The Judge's audience this weekend was over 25 years old. Looks like Robert Duvall was the box office draw for this one....
  20. Agreed that most of the blame goes to Gone Girl's legs.....but even with that, if RDJ really had a huge fan base himself this would have had an OW of 18 million. They would have showed up. But people didn't show up for him. Legs aren't going to be good with Brad Pitt coming next weekend.
  21. I agree about the demographic groups, but you are being too easy on RDJ. He shouldn't get his butt kicked and thrashed by a cheap horror movie in its 2nd weekend of release. Or by a kid's movie without any buzz. If the officials come in Monday and put his number at 12.99 million then maybe you will rethink how easy you are being on him.
  22. I thought mediocre reviews didn't hurt movies on opening weekend. Dracula's reviews are worse than The Judge. No Good Geed's reviews are way worse than The Judge. More of the blame should go to RDJ's lack of starpower than to a 48% on RT. Those reviews would affect its legs starting in the 2nd weekend, but a big star would have been able to get this to 18-19 million OW.
  23. I'd say 70% of the blame goes to Gone Girl's legs, 25% goes to RDJ's lack of star power, and 5% goes to mediocre reviews. The final RT score is about 47-48%, so I wouldn't call the reviews bad or poor. It isn't like the reviews are in Transcendence territory. They are middle of the road.
  24. What percentage of The Judge flopping gets blamed on the strong word of mouth/legs of Gone Girl? And what percentage of it flopping gets blamed on RDJ for not being a big enough box office draw himself to get that movie to an OW of 20 million?
  25. It is a little bizarre that the U.S. still celebrates Columbus Day on a federal level and local/state level like we do. Columbus was a pretty brutal guy. He consistently promoted the rape of innocent women by his crew on his ships and was one of the earliest proponents of bringing slavery to the New World. Not to mention that he didn't even land on American soil. No historical person is perfect - they all have flaws - but Columbus was a major a-hole.
