  1. Before Disney billions dollars movies in Marvel and Star Wars franchises, there was WB multi billions dollars projects with the Harry Potter, Lord of the Ring and TDK franchises.
  2. I also feel like 1.1B is locked because of the double whamy insurance policy, meaning, one way or another both Engame last trailer and Engame movie will push this movie over 1.1B bumping its BO mainly during the days after they are both released ! If Marvel is strategic, it should deliver that last trailer with CM doing her thing within the next two weeks. Weekend 3 seems perfect to me.
  3. It will be interesting to see how high an R rated Black Widow movie would open to. Also, i wish Marvel would have considered making a Peggy Parker with the original SHIELD cinematic version sooner, rather than a TV serie.
  4. Personally, storywise, acting wise (the subtelity of the french language) i like 'NikKita' much more and think it is the template for female led action movies. Parrillaud had a palette of emotions in that movie. I also think european cinema, especially German, Italian and French, do 'film noir' much better. I absouletly love the old european 'noirish' dramatic movies in that prospect.
  5. I like both WW and Captain Marvel but to me none are unforgettable or have that masterpiece, classic seal to it. There isn't yet a CBM with a female lead that i consider a 'classic' If i could point to the best movie ever made and led by an actress it will be 'Nikita' in its original french version. Anne Parillaud was outsanding and the movie remained to me, a female led action movie/drama masterpiece that hasn't yet approached but none other since its release !
  6. It will be interesting to see how CM will be portrayed and marketted in the next Endgame trailer and how it will boost her solo movie BO once that trailer is released.
  7. Worldwide numbers through wednesday : https://www.screendaily.com/news/jurassic-world-fallen-kingdom-races-to-393m-international-gross-update/5129986.article
  8. I don't know if it will be able to reach one billion worldwide but as i have said many times, unless you are TDK and outperform MASSIVELY at home, there are no cbm entering the billion's club without playing massively in Asia with great numbers in both China and South Korea,at least good numbers in Japan and very good numbers in all the rest asian markets. Great overall asian numbers are the key for any cbm to have a shot at reaching the billion's club. Both Avengers movies, IM3 and Civil War all perform far above the other cbm in asian compared to other cbm released around the same period of time.
  9. Wasn't IM a risk ? Hell they even had to freeze some assets to do it and took the risk of hiring RDJ. Wasn't the MCU itself a risk ? Now every other studio is trying to emulate it riding on Marvel's success with CBM and shared universes with the lesser risk since Marvel already tested it before anyone else and with A listed characters or mega popular ones whose popularity is already tested otherwise....something Marvel didn't have and had to start from scratch building popularity out of obscure or less popular characters.
  10. Wrong ! Spider Man3 grossed $554m+ overseas in 2006, without 3D and without an expanded chinese market. I definitely believe had it been a great movie with a 4th sequel two years later, a Raimi Spiderman4 would have been the one hitting $1b worldwide effortlessly before TDK, which had been rereleased worldwide a few months after vbeing out of the theaters to give it the ultimate boost to hit $1b. Spider Man has always been a monster overseas regardless of the movie being good or not.
  11. Spider Man Homecoming has just hit 200 reviews posted in RT with a perfect 94% (7/7 average rating) equaling the first IM movie. I don't think it will go below 91/92 % now.
  12. WW was the only DCEU movie i was really interesyed in right from the get go because she is a childhood hero of mine since the reruns of Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman TV show and because as a woman, i crave for more female led action movies ever since i saw my favourite one , Anne Parillaud's Nikita from Besson. Thats said, i never expect it to break out the way only male centric superhero movies do. I still believe there is a still a long way to go for us to draw as many movie goers as a male would have done if he had been head lining the same movie. Action stars which superheroes movies derived from are still very male centric and there are still many people who wont take a female superhero as serious. Hope she does enough though to incease female led action movies as BO will be the only factor in that regard for studios to consider giving more chances to actresses and female directors in that specific genre.
  13. Guardians who was released in 2014 was a big risk and considered as such at the time. True, since Avengers, superhero movies have been propelled into another stratosphere in terms of BO, but until Guardians, all of them were either remakes of A list characters or sequels of tested movies...and even then, it didn't stop some major flops like the Fantastic Four or some domestic major underperformance like Apocalypse. Guardians was the very first original superhero movie featuring obscur characters post Avengers and the first one based on a cosmic world. It was a first test to prove that a totally original property with basicly no major fanbase could succeed where other original SH movies (eg : Jonah Hex, Green Lantern, ect) have failed constantly before.
  14. To me the whole original/non original topic is a wrong critic. Studios don't do remakes to please the exact same audience as before, they do remakes to update a classic for a renewed audience. People die, others are born, other are growing out of some material they used to love being younger while others become new fans and receptive to what is for them a totally new material. This is the number one reason why remakes are made, to become the contemporary movie of a new audience who wasn't there when the original or former one was released ...while still trying to engange the former one who will see this with a more critical eye coimparing the two. That's why a new Terminator will be released as soon as James Cameron gets his hands on it...not for me who grew up with the original one but for a younger generation who will make it its contemporary classic.
