  1. Yes, it was always going to be huge. In DECEMBER. After MJ2 had done the bulk of its business. The fact that Star Wars completely ate all the entertainment news cycles for six weeks prior to its release was a surprise. Once that started happening, what the hell could Lionsgate do? It's not just them, either. Disney themselves must have been caught by surprise by it as well, since they seemed perfectly content to let The Good Dinosaur stay in its slot where it crashed and burned.
  2. They knew perfectly well how popular Star Wars was. Even so, TFA beat expectations by a huge margin, which they could not have foreseen.
  3. By the time it was clear what was happening with Star Wars, it was, what, a month until MJ2's release? Far too late to make any changes.

  5. Got to take the context of the era into play. She predated Dickens and I believe didn't have access to the serialized publishing medium that allowed him to be that prolific. And at the time she was writing and publishing, the novel was still somewhat new and not at all regarded as entombed into literature. Even so, many authors well before (such as Dafoe), contemporary (Shelley), or after (Hawthorne) did not have significantly more works than she did, even though they all lived longer. (This is ignoring, of course, anything about what social expectations on women would do to their creative output.)
  6. What do you mean "only" six novels. That's a pretty strong output, especially in that era. Especially for a writer who died at 41.

  9. We're probably speaking of "good" in two different contexts. You seem to be of a mind that if it's enjoyable, it's good. And that's perfectly fine. Many of Bay's films are very enjoyable. (The Rock is a long time favorite of mine.) I'm applying it in terms of critique and trying to look at filmmaking choices with regards to the story presented. Bay usually doesn't do well here, since a lot of his style is fairly one note. He does some things very well, but lacks balance. So, while, yes, it's all opinion, depending on the context, not all opinions are equally valid.
  10. Star Wars X is going to drop in the schedule soon for December 2021 so it doesn't fall behind as the longest Saga.
  11. Wow. I don't remember that question at all. I'll take it, though.
  12. Right. Sorry. Taking that into account, you're probably at least 400k points behind the leader. (I might be as well. I'm just hoping I have a big enough buffer to stay ahead of you.)
  13. Probably not? He's currently in 12th place, over 200k points behind the leader. He's also over 100k points behind me, which is the only important thing to track.
  14. I just keep telling myself that all I have to worry about is beating Tele. That's my only goal after the Summer game performance. Not going to cry... at all... about not being able to catch up with the leaders.
  15. Could we get a scoring update before we start betting our points?
  16. Trying to see if I can get one or two more in before the deadline next week.
  17. Nice writeup of not only the historical accuracy of Hugh Glass' tale, but also how it has been changed over time to reflect current views: http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/history/2015/12/hugh_glass_how_accurate_is_the_revenant_a_history_of_a_folk_tale.single.html
