  1. Not quite recent, but it could be interesting for comparison later this year. Finding Nemo had a crazy 59 days above 1m. And Shrek 2 had 54. I kinda feel like those might be the highest outside of the Avatar/Titanic/ET trifecta.

  3. I made a tofu & lentil curry last week. It's been awesome going through it. So good. I'm out of naan, though.
  4. I think based on the decisions they've made with casting, it's got a zero chance of being a film that should be called Ghost in the Shell. ScarJo's great. She's completely wrong for this.
  5. Well, I woke up this morning and it seems things are working again, so I suppose it's cool as is with today's deadline. I was just worried it might have been an extended problem.
  6. Can we get an extension on the nomination deadline? The forums are only working on mobile for some of us which is making it kinda difficult to submit anything.
  7. Ugh. Lost to @moviecriticguy by just a smidge. Shouldn't have been low on The Boy.
  8. Most theater screens are a lot smaller than that. The average screen might be at 100-150 people, but I'd bet on the low end. So say you've got a small theater, 100 seats, 4 showings a day, so 1200 tickets sold over the weekend. If it had an $8 ticket price and sold out the weekend, it's going to get $9600. That's if it's sold out. TFA is a 6 week old film. It's still popular, but it's not going to sell out. So this small theater may only have 2 or 3 showtimes a day. Say 8 over the weekend. And it's pulling in 40 people a screening, which is optimistic. So now it's $2500 for the weekend. It's still doing good business for that theater. Also, pretty much by definition, IMAX is special.
  9. So after i get my writing done for the day, I think I'll be able to go see one last 2015 movie before I put in my ballot for the BOFFYS. Since Costco has stopped carrying the movie vouchers for AMC and I've only got one left, I'm going to limit my options to the Regal theater. So, with that in mind, which should I go to: Creed The Big Short Spotlight In the Heart of the Sea Joy (MMFR is ALSO playing there, but I'm trying to see something new.)
  10. I think my problem with Kingsman is that it really is unsure about what it's trying to convey. I think it -wants- to convey that someone from the wrong side of the tracks is just as good a person as anyone who went to Eton or the like. However, as presented, what it basically says is that the gentlemanly way is so good that it can take anyone, even from the wrong side of the tracks, and turn them into a proper, upstanding citizen. By the end, Eggsy has had his own self and history washed away by his new education. Kinda fucked up, really. Still, despite that, the Free Bird scene is off the charts amazing. One of the best of the year, IMO.
  11. Looking down the list of all time Thanksgiving openers, the 3-day accounted for 32.6% of the total (will fall a bit from there, but not massively. At best it's got another $3m or so, assuming there's a healthy cheap theater expansion.) And the 5-day is 46.2%. To find an opener with worse legs, you've got to go down to Unbreakable (31.9%, 48.4%), The Muppets (33%, 46.8%), Spy Game (34.8%, 49%), and End of Days (30.7%, 47.1%). I'd kinda forgotten how frontloaded The Muppets was, despite the good response. And at least that had the nostalgia factor to explain why people showed up at the start and not later on. For a family film, TGD's legs have been pretty terrible.
