Maybe for a week or two, but I have faith that Frozen will show excellent legs once again and get to a solid final tally.

Well I don't know who the actor is that's playing him but obviously if they're doing a movie about the Persian Wars then the main character has to be Themistocles. I mean just because Lena Headey and Eva Green are bigger stars doesn't change what happened in history. -
Top 25 musical films ever- Deadline in 16 hours
FrozenFan626 replied to Films's topic in The Speakeasy
Well number 1 for me is definitely Frozen. There's no way I'll be able to come up with a list of 25 musicals though. Ten might even be pushing it. -
Yeah the only movie I have ever seen in 3D was Avatar which I didn't really think enhanced the experience too much and since then I never felt like it was worth the extra money but everyone has been saying that Frozen looked awesome in that format. I suppose it makes sense that a beautifully animated film like this would translate better in 3D than a live action. I'm bummed that I missed my chance but I guess it gives me something to look forward to if/when they re-release it in a few years.

I never got to see it in 3D

Ugh.. Why must they destroy the innocence of this wholesome, family friendly story of sisterly love? Oh wait, this pretty much took care of that already.

I think that's sorta how I felt after the first time I saw it but then I saw it again...and again... and again and it just kept getting better That's probably not the case for most people though; I think it was the increased appreciation for the soundtrack for each viewing that did it for me. To the best of my recollection I had never seen a movie more than twice in theaters and here I was a 21 year old guy going to the cinema to see an animated Disney movie for the 4th time

There does seem to be some general consensus at the top with TLK, BatB, and Aladdin on most peoples lists which is nice to see.
-
No Frozen? Your top 5 is pretty much the same as mine besides that though.

China Box Office Thread | Oppenheimer-August 30
FrozenFan626 replied to A Marvel Fanboy's topic in China At The Box Office
Well its such a wild card but I think I'm going to lean more towards your side and say that it makes a play for $100m. So that's my official prediction but really I could see anything from $60m-$150m happening and not be all that surprised. -
I just wish I knew Japanese so I could tell what they were saying about it. Hopefully there has been a lot of positive hype building over there the past few months

Hercules is a very underrated film in my opinion. When people discuss Disney's best from the 90s people seem to invariably turn to The Lion King, Aladdin, and The Beauty and the Beast (and deservedly so) but I think Hercules is definitely worthy of being added to the Pantheon of animated classics in its own right. Mythological inaccuracies aside, it has a solid story with a great final act. The humor is this movie is particularly of note. James Woods is brilliant as Hades (he is basically the villain equivalent of Robin Williams' Genie) and Danny Devito as Hercules' trainer Phil is great as well. The hand-drawn animation is beautiful, although I'm not the biggest fan of some of the unusual proportions. Widely regarded as the weakest part of Hercules may be the soundtrack which I would say is not quite on the same level as some of the all-time Disney greats but even so it still has a few songs that really shine. "Go the Distance", "I Won't Say I'm In Love", and "A Star is Born" are all very good musical numbers. Ultimately, I give Hercules 9.1/10 and place it fifth on my overall Disney list.

Hellfire is a pretty darkly powerful song but maybe as a whole the soundtrack isn't the best. I definitely approve of your top 3 btw although I think TLK and Hercules are also worthy of an A grade
-
Do you think it will have the same kind of impact that it did in the U.S.?
-
Tough but definitely doable. It would basically have to match Monster's U over there which it will if Frozen connects with Japanese crowds anywhere close to the level it did in South Korea.

Certainly can make a compelling case for any of those. But yeah it's been fun following Frozen's run of epic holds these last couple months regardless!

The Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug OS Thread
FrozenFan626 replied to A Marvel Fanboy's topic in International Box Office
I get that the trailers are supposed to highlight the best bits of the film to draw people in but it still kinda harsh imo to criticize the DOS and AUJ trailers which I thought were still pretty decent considering they were still trailers for DOS and AUJ which I thought were both fairly substandard. The Smaug teaser for the third trailer in particular was pretty epic I felt like it would raise anticipation a little more before the release. They obviously still fall short of LOTR's but at a certain point you can only advertise the footage you've got to work with and none of the Hobbit stuff has been nearly as enthralling as the original trilogy. -
I think its because they know that they such have a lucrative property now that they can generate way more money with through merchandise, a Broadway musical, and theme park attractions than just the billion they would get if they made a another movie so they don't want to take the chance to damage the brand by screwing up a sequel.
