  1. Well I would say the general consensus greatest animation period at the moment would probably be the Lion King (considering critical acclaim and commercial success), which is also Disney so I would hesitate to make that statement. If Frozen can knock off TS3, pick up both oscars, continue to dominate the billboard 200 charts, and make a lot of noise at the next year's Grammys then the argument could be made. However, there is no way that Frozen will knock off TLK's gross adjusting for inflation and I doubt the soundtrack will get to Lion king levels (10 weeks at #1). But both are fantastic movies so I have no problem with those taking the top 2 spots!
  2. They're safe bets but not necessarily in Disney's recent experience. The pre-release predictions had it tracking around the lines of Wreck-It-Ralph (185-190m) so to say that it merely caught on more than expected is an understatement to say the least. Besides, most of the movies you mentioned had significantly higher percentages of the total numbers coming from the domestic market whereas Frozen has done well in the US but has also become something of a global phenomenon.
  3. I want to like your post because I love me some Bryan Cranston reading some Bad-ass 19th century poetry but I still think you are underestimating Frozen's run. Sure inflation is a component but the fact that it had still maintained over 2000 theaters three months into its run is just ridiculous. Heck it was number 2 at the domestic box office in its tenth week!
  4. MAYBE you could make the argument for Forrest and the Sixth Sense maybe but the rest had nowhere near the type of legs Frozen has had.
  5. Ozymandias is the name of a pivotal episode in the final season of Breaking Bad and since his pic is of Walter White I'm assuming that's where he got the name.
  6. You need to cut all ties with this person immediately
  7. Fair enough, and that's what opinions are for so I can't really blame you for picking something else. it's just been great to follow this awesome run these last couple months
  8. Yeah CF being purely 2d and still taking the top spot is just crazy.
  9. First off, I explicitly excluded Avatar and Titanic when I made my statement. Second, sure Gravity over performed but I would hardly say that it literally doubled pre-release expectations like Frozen did. It made 700m which is great but it was a still a big-budget film with two very bankable stars. The legs were impressive for both but Frozen's holds still blow it out of the water. #1 in its 6th weekend and top 5 for 11 consecutive weeks.
  10. Gravity was definitely impressive but I think in terms of sustained success and pre-release expectations Frozen's run is head and shoulders above everything in the last 20 years not named Titanic or Avatar.
  11. Should be able to get to it without Japan. 1.1B final tally still within reach.
  12. Well I think Frozen will probably wind up 2nd WW and domestically for 2013 but it still has an outside shot of hitting #1 for both if it gets a post oscar bump in the US to pass CF and has a similar reception in Japan (150m+) as it did in S. Korea to pass IM3 globally.
  13. I feel like a sing-a-long version would go absolutely bananas in S. Korea! Both versions of Let It Go (Idina's and the cover by Hyolyn) have been insanely popular over there with Idina's still sitting at #1. Hopefully the Disney distribution team can conjure up some more magic and keep this awesome run going strong!
  14. I was of a similar mind to you the first time I saw Frozen. I thought it was good but not great. In fact I even I had a slight bias to dislike it merely because I was against the idea of a new animated movie trying to stack up against the Renaissance Era Disney films. But once I bought the soundtrack and saw it again it was like a light switched on. It has gotten progressively better for me every time I have seen it and once you fully embrace the music it is simply a wonder. Believe me, I do not take my Disney rankings lightly. At first I wasn't even sure that I wanted to rank Frozen ahead of Tangled let alone some of my all-time favorites like Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast. However, at a certain point I just had to let it go (pun intended) and accept the fact that it was great movie and ultimately deserving of a spot right up there near the top (although I still have it behind TLK for now).
  15. Just confirmed that Idina Menzel will indeed be performing at the upcoming Oscars on March 2nd! http://www.idinamenzel.com/index.cfm/pk/view/cd/NAA/cdid/733098/pid/400025
  16. Yes, it's even doing better proportionately than the US. Something must have really resonated with the SK audience which is great because this movie absolutely deserves all of the success it has had and then some!
  17. Re-reading all the books right now and I think Season 4 could easily end up being the best when all is said and done. The last half of A Storm of Swords is transcendent.
  18. Way to go South Korea! At least one Asian country can recognize an awesome film when they see it (I'm looking at you China...)
  19. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Frozen will be making much of a splash in China. It is only slated to be kept in Theaters for 10 days and with less than 13% of the total screen share. This is mostly due to the local animated movies that have recently been released over there like the Monkey King.
  20. Really? As if restricting the theatre share wasn't enough already. Why does China hate awesome movies?
  21. I don't especially want to root against this movie but with 1 billion in the balance for Frozen I kinda need this to not take off (which it probably will). I'll say 170 Dom and 350 OS.
  22. Frozen is still out in theaters (it actually finished #2 at the box office this week despite already being out for 11 weeks). The digital copy comes out February 25th with the DVD and Blu-ray set for a March 18th release date (I've already bought the soundtrack and pre-ordered the movie lol). I cannot express how amazing it truly is. I'm with you on being disappointed for most of their recent stuff (Tangled being somewhat of an exception for me) but man does Frozen really shine bright even when comparing it to all-time Disney greats!
  23. I know the whole "Best Animated Feature" Category was created to sidestep the issue of comparing Animations to other candidates but considering Up and TS3 were both up for Best Picture I really felt like Frozen deserved some extra consideration. For me of course, it isn't even close; it was definitely the best overall film of 2013 imo.
  24. I mean low in relative terms of course. Anything that makes a top ten in this category is impressive. It's just that The Lion King seems to be the consensus number one here by a significant margin and it barely cracked his list at ten.
