I find this very interesting. Are people who are outside TF4 target audience (say, little girls) simply be forced not to go to the cinema? I guess China needs more screens.
Nothing in the vein of Alice will ever do as much as Alice. That movie came out at a very particular time in the history of film technology and those circumstances will not be repeated.Edit: Unless they invent some new device to increase prices like 3D.
The marketing was very good. The movie never fell off the radar since the moment that first picture of Jolie as Maleficent was released (exactly two years ago). Disney created some real anticipation for Angelina's comeback. At least, that's how I feel.
The first one had seriously great reviews from both critics and audience, as well as an excellent multiplier. This suggested to many that people would rush to see the sequel.
But it does not seem impossible for movies to co-exist. The Monkey King and Dad, Where Are We Going? were released at the same time and both had massive grosses. I understand that TF4 will be even bigger, but at least some room for other movies should be left.
