I guess WDAS is developing a standard look for some females. There were also complaints about Anna looking like Rapunzel. I personally don't mind as long as the movie is good.
You remind me of a guy who kept saying the studio was buying the copies when Adele's 21 sold its first two millions. He gave up around the time it hit 5 million copies. I wonder if he knows that it's at 27 million copies now.
Given that it's the only movie to overperform this summer and that it would at least shake away the boredom, I wouldn't mind. And the existence of the female audience still needs to be hammered into the heads of some studio executives.
Is it too early to estimate what the final OS gross might be? Or are there too many markets where it has yet to open? But I guess predictions in the $500-600M range are definitely gone, right?
I think it will do more than $100M OS. At the same time, I don't know what the closest comparison is. Perhaps Enchanted? That one did $212M. Is that too much? In any case, it should be very profitable with that budget.
Didn't you hear from Buckingham Palace? https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/323107/a2014_Honorary_Awards_-_June_2.pdf
Word of mouth is clearly good. There are no real alternatives for families (Dragon isn't clicking with them). And I think the fact that the film is not as dark as it may have seemed is persuading those who did not see at first to go watch it. And yes Dame Jolie plays a role in the success. Her casting has been widely praised from the moment it was announced and the overwhelming majority of reactions to the film (even if negative overall) are positive about her.
