I looked back to 2013, and interestingly, Monsters University had a 38% jump from Thursday. That's obviously good, but stuff like World War Z and This Is The End held way better compared to their Thursday. Of course, Despicable Me 2 was on its first Friday, so that probably led to a more muted jump.

Conversely, I think 8.5x would be the high end for TLK, especially if it does reach 20M. Even if it's a family film, 20M+ is still a lot of demand taken care of. We're also still in the heat of no-school season. -

The Lion King Greater Philadelphia Area Seat Report T-14 Days and Counting Sellouts Showings Seats Sold Total Seats Perct Sold TOTALS 0 100 1,299 18,477 7.03% Total Seats Sold Today: 65 Bit surprised honestly that this jumped quite a bit (about 25% actually) from yesterday. I kind of assumed that with the holiday and everything people wouldn't be into buying tickets for movies, or at least for one out two weeks from now. Guess not. Really good stuff. Interested to see what Porthos has to say with his data. -
The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

So I'm doing my nightly ticket checks, and out of curiosity, I decided to look at OUATIH and see if presales were up. But what's interesting is that there are no Thursday preview showtimes up yet. It starts at Friday. Granted there's only two theaters up so far, so it'll probably be updated, but if there's really no Thursday previews, that's gotta be one of the strangest decisions for a movie, especially for a movie that would probably benefit from Tarantino fans rushing out to see it on Thursday. -

It's a pretty interesting film in the sense that it basically killed off Roberto Benigini's, the actor playing Pinocchio, career. It was his first big project after Life is Beautiful was a smash box office hit and nabbed him two Oscars, including Best Actor, but Pinocchio bombed in both Italy and America so hard that his career basically stalled, minus one or two more directing jobs, and a cameo in a Woody Allen movie. Shame too really. Life is Beautiful is still one of my favorite movies ever.

Slightly off-topic, but I discovered Disney actually did create an attraction based on the live-action Alice in Wonderland remake called Mad T Party (yes, really) at California Adventure. It was basically a concert venue/dance party that featured a rock band dressed up as characters from the 2010 movie doing covers of famous pop songs. Interestingly, the attraction was shut down about two months before Through the Looking Glass came out. I guess that closure was the first sign that movie was going to flop.
