  1. lmao no. The Satellite noms are usually a joke. Nominations for everyone! Also: their founder is named Mirjana Von Blaricom. That is most the Bond girl name ever.
  2. Anything that's had buzz, pretty much. Although I don't consider Passengers a contender because it's clearly not being positioned as one other than (maybe) techs.
  3. The thread where we list all of the contenders we still need to see! I still need to see: Loving Elle Manchester by the Sea Lion Jackie La La Land Patriots' Day A Monster Calls Silence 20th Century Women Fences Hidden Figures
  4. Considering how barren Supporting Actress is beyond Davis and Williams (and I guess Harris as well), I would cackle with laughter if Michelle Monaghan got nominated for Patriots' Day as payback for @Grand Moff Tele. I don't think it'll actually happen, though.
  5. I'm trying to figure where Patriots' Day would figure in other than the top two categories, especially with the techs looking packed. Maybe Wahlberg is this year's "surprise!" nomination? Doesn't hurt that he's a previous nominee, I suppose.
  6. I don't see a path for Washington (especially when Fences isn't even locked in for a BP nom). The stats are not in his favor.
  7. But who else is gonna factor in though? Berg (if Patriots' Day really becomes this year's American Sniper)? Eastwood? God help us all, Gibson (who is gonna need a few high quality movies, and zero outbursts along the way, to shake off his "pariah" status)? Washington isn't happening. And Affleck definitely isn't happening, especially with bad buzz starting to swirl around Live by Night (which even just got shutout by the one awards body that should've been an easy get). The race is pretty thin this year in Director.
  8. Don't think so. The lineup IMO is gonna be Chazelle/Jenkins/Lonergan/Scorsese/Villeneuve with Larrain on the outside looking in. No one else is even gonna be a factor.
  9. It, Hacksaw Ridge, and Patriots' Day are clearly the movies that are coming for that "under the radar/unexpected" surprise nods this year. Patriots' Day is the one that I'm most conflicted on because I don't know what other categories it would show up in.
  10. I've been thinking it'll be a The Help-esque crowdpleaser for a while. Wouldn't surprise if it breaks through, or that Henson sneaks into the Actress race.
  11. Also, 4 Lionsgate released films are in their top 10. Somebody call @CJohn. Also, no Live by Night anywhere despite the love affair NBR has with WB. It's going nowhere.
  12. Added the top 10. The Jackie shutout is very surprising. Carol 2.0?

  14. Also, I hope the BFCA nominations are as ridiculous and shameless as usual. Them adding The Force Awakens after nominations were already announced just because it wasn't screened in time was the final proof we needed as to what a joke of an organization they are.
  15. Yeah, tweets have been surfacing today that are being coy about the embargo and indicating it'll be lucky to get even tech nominations. Now we know why it took so long to get a qualifying release.
  16. Get ready to see their WB/Eastwood love affair continue.
  17. I'm not shocked that Disney Springs gets that high every now and then given how big the theater is. Especially when there's probably no better place to see a Disney movie than when you're at Disney World.
  18. He's mostly made his name playing frosty characters (the evil Magneto and the despicable slave owner from 12 Years a Slave are arguably his two most famous roles), and audiences don't tend to gravitate towards actors with too many "chilly" associations.
  19. It might be the closest of all of his movies to being a true license to print money annually, even moreso than even Back to the Future (the studio is gonna continue making a goldmine off of that movie for years to come) so he shouldn't feel bad about his more recent movies being ignored by moviegoers. The continued success of The Polar Express (still shows up on the bestselling DVD charts even though it's now a 12 year-old movie, the annual IMAX/public outdoor screenings, the broadcastings on the ABC-owned networks) is even more ironic considering it was written off as a collossal bomb after its opening weekend was less than half of the second weekend of The Incredibles on that same frame.
  20. Hacksaw Ridge is on track for a $65M total. If Gibson wasn't still considered a pariah the leggy run might've been enough to give it serious Oscar attention.
