If it would've been as well received as say Deadpool, it would've at least come close to $400m IMO. I still stand by that.

I wonder if @MovieMan89 will celebrate his birthday today by burning some Gareth Edwards Voodoo dolls. -
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)
miketheavenger replied to Plain Old Tele's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
A pretty good film that serves as a nice Bridge between Episodes III and IV. The visuals and the cinematography were terrific (like every SW movie, even the prequels). Tarkin looked so realistic I honestly thought the actor had come back from the dead. Unfortunately, I have to echoe the sentiment that most of the characters were kind of bland. I really only cared about Jyn, K-2SO (who stole the show with his lovely sarcasm), Donnie Yen and to a lesser extent Diego Luna. All of the others were forgettable and thus them being killed off didn't really hit me all that hard. Yes the final space battle was great and Vader proved again why he's pretty much the best villain ever, but that wasn't enough for this movie to be truly great. I liked TFA better because the characters were much more developed and charismatic. Overall still a rather enjoyable movie with an excellent third act, but the buildup to that and the characters weren't as good as I wanted. Grade: B or 7,8/10 -
So I got out of Rogue One and I quite enjoyed it. Not great, not as good as TFA, but pretty good nonetheless. Have noc clue if the audience liked it or not since we don't applaud a movie after it Ends unlike the US. I'm guessing WOM is gonna be solid, but not amazing. Just my personal guess, though.

A quirky, deranged, frantic film and most importantly, a hell of a good time. This is up there with Avengers and GotG as the funniest CBM I've seen and the action is awesome, too. Ryan Reynolds was born to play this role, TJ Miller was hilarious and the rest of the cast was solid. The Soundtrack is also fantastic and really fits the movie's tone. However, the villain and the plot are fairly generic, which keeps this from being a great movie. But ultimately that doesn't really matter as it's just so much fun. The second-best CBM of 2016 (not far behind Civil War) and the third-best X-Men film (behind DOFP and X2). Grade: B+

Suicide Squad (2016)
miketheavenger replied to CJohn's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
I actually enjoyed the movie a fair amount. Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis and (surprisingly Jai Courtney) are the standouts. Their characters are at least somewhat developed and they're fun and even likable to some extent. The other ones are rather forgettable, though (especially Enchantress who is a boring-ass villain). I also wasn't a big fan of Leto's Joker, although I did like his banter with Harley. The visuals were obviously very good and the soundtrack was awesome (but nowhere near GotG level because some of the songs felt a bit out of place). The plot is kind of a mess, though and the editing is weird. Overall still a positive experience for me, but WB really needs to get their shit together when it comes to the general tone and feel of their films. Grade: B- -
A thoroughly enjoyable film that filled my Potter fan heart with magic. The visuals were stunning, the design of the Beasts was so creative and beautiful and the worldbuilding in general is fantastic. The main characters were mostly good. Redmayne, Waterston and Fogler were charming, but I wasn't a fan of Sudol's character. Colin Farrell was a solid villain, though the Grindelwald reveal was rather poorly done IMO and I really don't need Depp in this franchise. The ending was great as it was much darker than I anticipated. One of the better Wizarding World films. Grade: B+

Finding Dory (2016)
miketheavenger replied to baumer's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
I grew up with Finding Nemo. It was one of the very first films I ever watched and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Which is why I was quite anxious about this sequel, but thankfully it worked. The characters are once again excellent, Dory gets developed nicely and Marlin and Nemo provide some comic relief. Hank the octopus was hilarious and a very strong addition and I really liked how the movie changed to almost like a spy thriller in the second half. The two whales were also fairly enjoyable. Overall it doesn't tug your heartstrings as much as some other Pixar films and it's not as funny as Ratatouille or Up, but it's certainly a worthy sequel to Finding Nemo and one of the best animated films this year. Grade: B+ -
I'm a casual Warcraft fan, and personally I liked the film. The visuals were terrific, the characters were mostly fine and the acting was decent. It is a little uneven throughout and some of the dialogue is fantasy cliche-ridden, but overall an enjoyable film and IMO one of the very few good video game movies. Grade: B

The Secret Life of Pets (2016)
miketheavenger replied to Ezen Baklattan's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
A fun, enjoyable little movie with some good humor and nice characters. However, the story is quite generic and it doesn't really have an emotional Punch. A bit better than Minions, but not more than a B overall.
