    So at least at my theater, which you can track ticket sales on the public website, NWH’s Thursday preview sales have ALREADY surpassed the following films’ TOTAL preview numbers: Infinity War Last Jedi Rise of Skywalker The Force Awakens The ONLY movie I don’t think NWH will be able to pass is Endgame for previews here... but that’s still debatable.

    As someone who has a very active presence on tik tok... this guy and his hyperbole on NWH is not shocking to say the least.

    Let’s not forget that War Horse opened to ~7M then had a 10-11x multiplier over Xmas. There’s also relatively little overlap between WSS and NWH’s crowds. WSS could also benefit from spillover from sold out spiderman shows.

    Throwing this out there based on Canadian numbers, but NWH is very much looking at 40M+ previews.

    WSS will be lucky to hit 50k CAD for previews in the great white north. Maybe my projections for the rest of the evening are a bit off, but that seems to be the range for now. Doesn’t bode too well unless Canada just super underindexes, especially since that includes IMAX shows. 400k is what I would predict based on this.

    Presales are relatively... bad for this in Canada, and I’m actually kind of baffled.

    The thing with the Oscars this year is that there is no clear front runner... at all. Honestly, I could see it going to Belfast, LP, WSS, Power of the Dog... am I missing something? Maybe even King Richard if it gets some acting wins.

    So guys whenever I say movies like Belfast crush it at my theatre... I’m not kidding Turns our we were the #1 theater for the movie in all of Canada today. And we’re a kid-size theater, IF that.

    CANADA: Gucci roughly 2.5x Encanto so far today so far (neither includes Tuesday previews). ghostbusters has also overtaken Encanto for today. Walk-ups are very very strong for it, will likely see a very healthy bump from Tuesday overall domestically (Canada is skewered because it’s not a holiday here). Resident Evil hasn’t moved a ton today. Fallen behind Dune and Eternals. Bleh

    I know it’s only early morning, but for sales in Canada for today, Gucci is nearly at 4x the number two film (Encanto). Followed in third by Ghostbusters, Resident Evil in a close 4th place, then Dune then Eternals.

    Certain markets are certainly being hit harder than others (I’ve heard stories of Managers being forced to sleep in their movie theaters because they are trapped by the floods). But in places where day-to-day life is mostly “normal” I feel like escapist entertainment is in pretty high demand right now.

    In Canada, Gucci is killing it in Toronto/Vancouver regions, but less impressive in more rural areas and Quebec. To be expected I guess. BC (Vancouver especially) is Canada’s strongest presale market for Encanto, which is surprising given the state of the region right now (I’m still having trouble finding certain groceries). If it weren’t for that, I’d say it would be even stronger here.

    House of Gucci is selling... weirdly well here. If numbers in my area were any indication, 30M 5-day is on the table.
