when did anyone claim Disney was striving for Arabian "accuracy"? there is not one Arab actor in this movie. nor was there any in the original animated film. Aladdin has been performed for decades by non arab actors... oh no! The controversy!

WB did have a pretty bad year - 2001: A Space Odyssey recreation re-release only grossed $3 million.

is it not "clunky"? its specifically designed to look more like stop-motion rather than look like smoothed CGI. that's why certain parts have lower framerate / fewer frames and it less motion blur/smoothing. the lego movies are quite clearly very different from other CG animations - the CGI is designed to look photorealistic. it is completely different from Disney movies that have no grounding in the real world, and its clear which audiences prefer. the first lego movie was a novelty hit, sadly it will not reach heights like that again.

I don't recall ever watching the animated film as a kid, the only recollection of Aladdin is the panto - Will Smith Genie fits right in. just need Aladdin to be played by a woman and this movie will be fixed.

Not sure what you mean by this since plenty of actors do TV/Netflix work. Besides isn't Witcher quite a big deal? Meant to be one of Netflix's most expensive shows? And he did Man from UNCLE and Mission Impossible. UNCLE may have flopped but it was still a major studio film with 100m budget.

It was only a year after TLK proved people's interest in this franchise has been killed. It is a minor achievement that it managed to do as well as it has done. It hasn't flopped. And thanks to lucrative China deal it will have turned a good profit for Paramount. It has turned things around for this franchise as it seems paramount is willing to continue on this line. I daresay without this film succeeding, Paramount Would have ended the TF series there.

HTTYD3 added 50M this week. Think that's more than it made the week before. Wonder if it could reach 200M before American release.

He is right though, audiences clearly prefer regular CGI animation with nothing fancy. And lego2 & spiderverse are bad movies so.

not sure how film schools and cameras are racist but the point is correct, no? the idea of shooting on iphone is to demonstrate you dont need expensive equipment to make a movie. you just need a camera that functions. its opening up filmmaking to more people. Soderbergh using a phone is not some artistic choice of "this is superior for this film than traditional cameras", its a tool for the job, "hey we can make this film for cheap if we dont need a film crew and equipment"
