  1. Fantastic news! It has been such a strong year at the box office. Lots of huge films - as well as the ones quoted in that article above, there's Greatest Showman & Peter Rabbit, which both I believe grossed over £40 million this year.
  2. As I understand, Paramount does not receive any money from China box office - instead they took a flat $60 million fee to give full theatrical cut to the Chinese distributor. That $60million pays for almost half of the budget of Bumblebee alone. So if take China out of the equation, it has grossed $263 million, while costing only $75 million budget. I can believe it has already made its money back and is profitable, yeah.
  3. They are both leads. Yes David Sheff gets more screen time and arguably the film is from his perspective. But I'd say they are both leading roles. Nic is not a "supporting character". anyway.
  4. that's my point though. those are averages. the people who enjoyed it, really enjoyed it. that's all you need for something to do well, enough people to really like it and put it highly, will outweigh lots of people putting it very low.
  5. pets will not make it. lego movie may not either. I don't know what adult animation films are coming out this year but theres usually at least 2 that make it in. edit: its depressing just thinking we can already somewhat accurately predict the nominations for 12 months ahead. such a useless and neglected category.
  6. yeah that's what I was asking, whether you thought he is the best supporting performance or just whether you think his awards campaign should desrve it. tepid reviews? What tepid reviews? Polarising is not the same as tepid. That's the issue with rotten tomatoes, you look at 60% and you think average. When it's more like a love / hate thing. By the same logic, 2001: A Space Odyssey had a tepid reception, most people think its pretty mediocre/average..
  7. Happy 2019 guys. good to see you all again. what a crap Christmas the cinema was !
  8. Looking at the local showings, yes possibly. I swear I looked last week and it wasn't busy. Lots of sellouts now. Sadly seems like everywhere is showing the dubbed version is that right? Or maybe that's normal for TV anime shows, I don't know. I would only want to watch a Japanese film with original language + subtitles.
  9. As it's not by Lord/Miller I have no expectation for it to be as good as the first. If its nearly as good as Batman then I'll be happy. Havent seen any trailers or footage or anything, excited. The catchy song though is.... catchy. I keep humming it. So that's a good start. HTTYD3 is my most anticipated of the year. I only watched the first film for the first time the other day, and kicked myself for not seeing it before. If 3 is on par with previous two, could be a contender for one of the best trilogies evah. My hype is through the roof, it comes out here next week.
  10. imagine thinking any movie is superior to the last crusade.
  11. You think Chalemet is a supporting actor? He's a lead actor. Havent seen Green Book either but I got the impression Ali is a lead in that too. A real supporting actor award should go to like the guy who played the father in The Hate U Give. A small role, performed so well that it adds another level to a movie.
  12. the academy will make up for their sins next year when Lego 2vie wins in every single category it's eligible for.
  13. 'member when Lego Movie didn't even get nominated for animated film? @Blankments
  14. Not sure how few nominations Floppins has but I can't see what category it could possibly win in?
  15. Oh, didn't realise he got those nominations. Don't think it's fair to say he is the only reason to watch Beautiful Boy. He's not even the best actor in it. Steve Carrell is terrific and deserving of awards talk for his performance. Also the movie is terrific. It's one of the best and most authentic portrayals of addiction.
  16. No one was expecting chalamet to get nominated. Did they push for lead or supporting? Both categories strong this year.
  17. If you already plan on seeing the film, why are you so bothered about being able to see more footage before the movie?
  18. First Reformed was never talked about for awards. One of those films that just came, went under the radar, and left. Shame.
