  1. Well I didn't see it in a cinema. So I doubt very much that anyone else did. For that matter, I didn't watch Crazy Rich Asians last year. Highly skeptical of anyone who claims they have seen it.
  2. BOMojo is not the be all and end all! It's up to the distributor to report the box office take. Just this weekend, FUNimation did not report the Sunday gross for Dragonball, so that's why it was the only film missing a Sunday gross when the weekend results came in. Does that mean it grossed $0? No Plenty of movies don't get box office reported. Imagine how much money THE ROOM has grossed by now, but you won't find it on boxofficemojo. From your claim of Netflix hiring theaters privately... If they actually reported a gross no doubt you would say that's fake news too.
  3. Think I remember reading it on here but oh well. According to Netflix, they released it in 150 theaters in North America, and 700 theaters worldwide. The fact they don't care for reporting box office is neither here nor there. This got a legitimate theatrical release. Don't see how it can be argued otherwise. https://www.screendaily.com/news/roma-to-get-limited-70mm-theatrical-run/5135479.article
  4. Breaking News: Albums that release on streaming and don't get vinyls on store shelves, are now ineligible for Grammy Awards.
  5. Was it Roma that Netflix told theaters that they could only show it if they showed it in 35mm ? Really, for demanding such high standards, Netflix is the big boy. The other studios should be playing on Netflix's level.
  6. Thanks for that info. And yeah, I assumed it wouldn't get released in America, was very happily surprised when not only did it get a US release but it did really well. I guess it is state-funded propaganda so no reason why it needs to do well at box office or get wide recognition outside of the UK, but it's still nice to see. When I saw it, Peter Jackson said that he did the same for 100 hours of other footage as a favour to the Imperial War Museum. Can't wait to see what other filmmakers take Jacksons technology and go crazy with it.
  7. Hey slambros. Long time no see. Thanks. That explains a lot, there's no other way it could have missed out. Why's it ineligible? It got a theatrical release in the States.
  8. How in the fuck has They Shall Not Grow Old (the best film of the year & inarguably one of the most important docs ever, making history) missed a documentary nomination?
  9. True but I suppose it's just down to your idea of what constitutes a Netflix film. And hi Barnack.
  10. Annihilation? Roma? Mowgli? No other Netflix films you think are great? (Fair enough if not... Each to their own)
  11. I haven't heard of the Fyre event but seen a lot of recommendations for the film. Need to get on watching that. Have you watched Buster Scruggs? Cooool coooool waaaderrr
  12. don't understand why America has gone so nuts over this. it's a pretty average superhero pic with some nice artwork. far too many characters that get nothing to do and are not given any screen time. also may be just me (definitely just me) but I really couldn't connect to it. like big hero 6 but without any of the cute baymax stuff and much more boring. Also. Did anyone else find the fake 3D stuff extremely irritating? It detracted from the film to the point of being unable to enjoy it. I thought when the film started, that the cinema was accidentally playing the 3D version - it had the overlay/dual image that you get when you take your 3D glasses off. I went and found cinema staff to tell them it was broken but they said that how its meant to be. I couldn't enjoy the film because of this. D
  13. Damien Chazelle is clearly just a racist filmmaker. did you notice he completely ignored all the hard work of the HIDDEN FIGURES women, in the Neil Armstrong movie? he's just a racist sack of shit. no other explanation for that.
  14. also, the LGBT-embracing moments being nothing more than *he stares at someone in a toilet* are laugh out loud funny.
  15. it was something like that. Freddie convinces the band like a week before live aid, to do it, because hes just found out he has AIDS. just didn't believe anything in the film. then I looked it up afterwards and sure enough he got diagnosed 2 years after Live Aid.
  16. Huh, guess I missed that. Incidentally the John Legend song (something about fire?) was the only good tune in LLL.
  17. no agenda. just an embarrassingly mediocre biopic that felt 100% fake. I went in knowing almost nothing about Freddie mercury, and left knowing even less. I'm supposed to believe that he got AIDS the day before live aid? Just didn't believe anything on the screen. CGI Live aid = no thanks. Also Rami Malek sounded like he was doing an impression of Tommy Wiseau.
  18. Nick Houlte is amazeballs in The Favourite.
  19. is viggo wrong? anyone can direct anything. It's about how you make the film, not who makes the film.
