As lisa (OP of last year's thread) seems to be inactive, I am creating this thread for 365 in 365, or (the moviewatching tracking thread). The aim is to improve your movie-watching rate to watch 365 films by the end of 2018. With a set goal in mind, hopefully you may find yourself driven to watching varieties of films in different genres and ages, opening up your mind to a greater understanding of cinema. AVATAR had a shit ton of merchandise for the months surrounding its release. I saw loads of naa'vi toys, facepaint/masks, clothes/bags/etc, I recall books being popular (both fiction and nonfiction AVATAR books) although I don't know about sales figures for any of this. The official tie-in game sold 2.7M copies which is a lot. Not as much as something like SW (or Cars, as Baumer rightly said) obviously, but to give some recent comparisons, it was more than INSIDE OUT or JURASSIC WORLD for sure.

I hope this actually gets a wide release here.

TGD underperforming had nothing to do with critics. It got good reviews, remember. Similar reception to Brave, Monsters University which did much better.

at work, there were ~150 people queuing up to go into a showing of star wars. some guy leaving a showing as he walked past this line, yelled at the top of his voice, never wanted to punch someone so much... it's one thing to spoil it on the internet to some random people who may or may not go see the movie at some point. it's a WHOLE other thing to actually yell it to people as they are literally going into the movie.

My predicts haven't really changed from this, Jungle Book and Dory probably up a bit and Warcraft and Alice down, Suicide Squad or Fantastic Beasts may slip into #10 at around 200.

That's 11 so it should happen, given how many others that could break out.

It's mostly impressive because it opened three times higher than its predecessor, reaching its entire gross in 5 days.
