  1. I got IMAX tickets for tomorrow afternoon but these comments are making me want to buy regular tickets to watch it first tonight already before a 2nd viewing tomorrow..! Here in Singapore, weekend IMAX tickets are almost all sold out.. first 2 rows remaining only.
  2. No no… that was not what I meant. Maybe what I said came across the wrong way, and I apologise for that if that is the case. I am in Singapore so what I said is also referencing people around me; so I do not mean it as an insult. in 2008, the highest grossing film here in Singapore was Kungfu Panda, while in many other countries - it was The Dark Knight. Even the Amazing Spiderman did similar numbers as Dark Knight rises here. Transformers also did very well here. Tricky thing is that people here sometimes prefer movies that are popcorn flicks more than movies than requires a lot of thinking and understanding. There is also the language barrier, English may not be the first language for many countries in Asia and action translates better compared to deeper plots.
  3. Let's see. I understand that the opening day was a holiday in Korea though, hence the big drop on the 2nd day, plus Korea is having one of its worst weeks of COVID. Situation may differ from country to country, but to be fair - Some Asian markets have less sophisticated tastes hence may not appreciate this film. Depends on Maoyan score, Above 9.0 then 100m is very very possible. First Superhero film there in a long time.
  4. Same for Singapore, spoke to the theaters - presales only good for IMAX... Hope it does well over the weekend. I feel that in general South East Asian audiences are not very sophisticated in taste; i.e. Amazing Spiderman and The Dark Knight Rises came close to each other in SG despite glaring differences in quality. In 2008, KF panda grossed higher than The Dark Knight here.. so not very sure what to expect.
  5. Following the format for the contest: Full OD: 60.0 million Saturday: 39.5 million Sunday: 26.0 million Weekend: 125.5 million
  6. 125m 3day OW. Happy to be proven wrong; and that it opens way higher.! Just wanted to be cautiously optimistic. IMAX tickets for Saturday - checked.
  7. Without COVID, Shang Chi wouldn't have 4 weekends to itself with literally no competition. I would say domestic wise, COVID helped Shang Chi as everything else moved.
  8. Last one came out so long ago that my wife thinks Mads Mikkelsen is a new character..and not Grindelwald...
  9. Exactly. When a MCU film don't release there - everyone is worried about gross and keeps asking / checking about release dates. Any other films.. Barely anyone bats an eye. The truth is most people on this forum are MCU fans..but i hope things don't get ugly and political because someone's favourite franchise isn't release there.
  10. I think Donnie Yen has passed the phase of mid-budget productions in HK, I think the initial announcement was maybe more than 10 years ago and his status has evolved so much since. He is making more impactful / high budget films like Raging Fire or international films John Wick 4 and Sleeping Dogs. But yeah I am still excited for a gritty HK film such as Kowloon Walled City.
  11. Agreed. Definitely there will be some impact but i don't think it is as much as some here are thinking.
  12. In the UK thread, there is also blatant talk about piracy and politics. Appreciate your moderation there too as well. thank you!
  13. But was it released on bluray / VOD? I thought it was D+ exclusive 12 Nov with no other platform or dvd / bluray release?
  14. Not sure what is up with leaks recently? Venom 2 was leaked late last week, now Shang Chi got leaked in HD 3 days before Disney+ release? Lol..
  15. Haha. The movie has a lot that the trailer is not showing; and it was one of the highest grossing foreign films in North America when it was released. Check out the RT score https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1075984-iron_monkey
  16. Thanks. Really appreciate it. it is fine. Good night.
  17. Huh? Not getting political here but this is a Hong Kong film and is the last work of Benny Chan the director who passed away last year due to cancer. please have some respect. nothing about the CCP here. I rather you not watch it.
  18. Tonight? where are you located? This is a box office forum so I am assuming we are all talking about cinematic release and we respect copyright.
