  1. Supposed to be 17th internationally. Hence 3 weekends without much competition internationally. But Sony's move out of Sep (to 14 Oct) made Dune move to Mid Sep; which also allowed Dune to clinch the first biggie Hollywood film to open in China post their national day holidays.
  2. Recency effect.. People will remember the last thing they saw. So in this case literally the end credit scene. 😅
  3. Great numbers..but still think Sony was silly and panicked with the movement in release dates and left money on the table. Could have opened last weekend (as originally slated) and do the same numbers, with better legs as 2nd weekend PLF would have remained in that scenario. International rollout was supposed to be 17th Sept worldwide (prior to Sony's constant move) and headlines worldwide (not just domestic) will all be Venom + Venom would have opened in China in late Oct as the FIRST Hollywood Biggie post National Holiday break, instead of Dune which is scheduled.
  4. I think the impact of no competition is much bigger than that. I mean I was comparing to when Venom had Sep 24 release date domestically and 16 Sep internationally. GA doesn't know the difference between MCU and Sony Marvel films, and as you know the hype for Venom 2 in many markets is quite insane. Imagine it only had 2 weeks to itself before Venom 2 arrives internationally. I would argue that 400m worldwide final would have been a toss-up for Shang Chi if Sony didn't panic and kept changing dates. 😅 but now SC will almost certainly hit at least 430m worldwide. With Bond, i do think 700m - 800m worldwide including China is gonna happen. The release date isn't bad just not as good as SC IMO. Just in Asia hubs - WoM in HK , Taiwan and Singapore from yesterday is very good - much better than SC i would say but it has Venom in 2 weeks (plus i told you about the COVID situation here in Singapore).
  5. Imagine Bond having 4 weekends to itself in the UK. People don't know how lucky Shang Chi is in many markets.. studios will die to have a 4 week open field. Bond with Shang Chi's release date would have doubled it worldwide IMO.
  6. There is a lot of speculation at this stage. How about watching the movie first and then see how it goes - maybe there is really something in this one that made it much better than the first. Also at this stage we cannot conclusive said critics reviews are better yet. We have like 50 reviews but total reviews will go to at least about 300; we don’t even know whether it will remain fresh.
  7. Yeah exactly. Haha. But I guess good to see that people are so excited about the numbers that they are asking for OD numbers even before the evening starts. 😅
  8. It opened in UK today right - 30 Sept? It is only 4.40pm there now. Why would you expect OD numbers at this time.
  9. Getting interesting. LOL. HAHA. What if this actually turns out to be fresh 🤣
  10. We will see; haven't seen a big budget HLW film open in China in the mid of December before. Aquaman was closest for 1st week of Dec, and it basically dominated the whole Dec in China. (Was supposed to be Alita but it pulled out). We will see - i hope Sony is smart enough if given the option of an earlier release date in China vs rest of the world; if WoM is good, it can chuck along nicely from early Dec till 1st week of Feb 2022 before CNY.
  11. Ah i thought NWH was releasing Christmas weekend; it was a week before. Yeah. Probably easily 800m by 1st Jan even if WoM tanks.. the hype is very strong. Venom 2 we will see; China is the key here to see whether it can beat NTTD worldwide plus OW domestic will give some hints. I do know that there are GA who still can't distinguish MCU films against Marvel films from other studios - so the hype for Spiderman might help Venom IMO.
  12. Let's go. 700m is the floor IMO, should take over Fast9 as highest grossing Hollywood(?) film. As long as WoM doesn't tank.. haha. Then no one should surpass it in terms of Calendar year; NWH will need Jan's gross to beat it IMO.
  13. Highest budgeted Chinese Film was just release. Battle of Lake Chang Jin. It is 7 day National Day Holiday starting from tomorrow. Curious for @Gavin Feng to share some views on the top 2 openers. Haha.
  14. I am still pissed with the HBO max release for this film. I mean at least 3 big markets are opening that weekend - China, US and UK.. what a waste.
  15. Fun December. Also G Storm on 31st Dec. Hope we see Venom in Nov and No Way Home in early Dec.
  16. It had almost 4 weekends to itself.. Already very very good release date and better than expected performance already. Haha. Anyway HD links with chinese subs is online everywhere... So.... Do you know whether it was released on VOD recently in the states? Thought 45 days isn't over yet
  17. I still can't believe Skyfall hit a billion. It really showed the bond franchise is not a UK or west centric franchise, but a franchise that is popular worldwide.
  18. Tough; 1) Only 3D and 3D IMAX release announced so far, people wants 2D... And some say if no 2D, they will pirate it. 2) Piracy
  19. ?? You are overthinking and overanalyzing. It just hasn't been announced. I am pretty sure Venom and NWH will both be released in China.
