  1. We can hope..for the best. Let's see weekend worldwide actuals first; will be a tough one for sure.
  2. Recency effect. but I do agree. I enjoyed both; but felt Shazam had more heart, better pacing and was more enjoyable. I felt Aquaman could be shorter by 15minutes.
  3. Exactly. Posting sarcastic remarks on the China BO thread as well... Everywhere i see him, he is pulling down SHAZAM. Every positive news someone brings, he replies with something sarcastic. Lol
  4. Too Long; so I don’t want to quote the whole thing. I do my best to convey and translate the messages I see and I can here. On 1) I was pretty sure previously Maoyan app does take into account scores from non-ticket buyers. I used to have an account and have tried before. I am not sure whether the system changed; and once someone corrected me, I accepted that. And I moved on and apologise. But you did not move on.... 2) I don’t think it is divisive and the % of less than 2 stars (out of 10) sort of proves it. It was almost 9 percent in the morning, now almost halted to 5+ percent, and I believe it will go lower to 3+ percent. 3) There were a few reviews like that, but one became the highest upvoted review for a couple of hours when I did my post. Yes, I know most of the box office numbers come from the first 2 weeks or so; but that was not the impretation of that review. People who are concerned about release dates should be DC fans, not other brands’ fans, no? But this review actually said this release date was stupid and my interpretation is that this immature superhero-wannabe-show is not a good appetiser before End Game. 4) please go onto those NA movie box office forums in Tieba. I have been reading posts after posts, topics after topics, and in the morning a lot of reviews that conveys similar message. I am not sure how to fully convey what I have seen there; so much hate speech there that moderators are banning members left/right/center. I don’t think my interpretation is fully wrong, but I do my best and try my best to relay what I have read.
  5. Apologies if I misinterpreted anything wrongly. I was just really helping to translate the reviews and relating the sentiment from the posts in North America movie box office forum on Baidu. Let me know if anyone wants the link to that forum; posts are in Chinese though. Anyway, that aside. Good news is that right now score is up to 8.0 on Maoyan, with 5.8% audiences giving 2 or less in scores; compared to 8.6% in the morning.
  6. Is this confirmed? Because the app also shows reviews from people who does not have the ‘bought ticket’ ticked under their reviews.
  7. Don't think they are spooked, just generally dislike of the other brand. Once again go read the reviews yourself instead of venting your anger here... Gosh.
  8. Huh? can you re-read some of my previous posts? Aquaman didn’t open between 2 highly anticipated marvel movies though... and I said that because some of the top mentioned things like ‘wait for EndGame’. Or like ‘release this on Children’s Day, not before End Game’. go take a look yourself. Once again, there are people who probably didn’t like it but I mean I am sure there are fans of other Brands who are also review bombing. don’t be too defensive and just please scroll through those reviews yourself.
  9. Up to 7.9 now. More people who have actually watched the movie are reviewing. Lol From the app, if you filter by latest comments, the latest comments from people who have bought tickets are mostly 8 - 10 points. Hope it climbs to above 8.
  10. P Storm was not good at all, not sure how it got such high scores. On Hong Kong’s WMOOV Box office website, P Storm got a 4.5/10; while Shazam has a 8/10. how can China and HK’s taste be so different when P Storm is a HK movie... lol
  11. I did not even talk about those countries. lol I just quoted some top reviews, no need to get so defensive and keep querying. I am just helping to translate. Probably wouldn’t help going forward.
  12. Not sure why so many people getting upset. i just quote a few top reviews that spoke about its release date and reviews that tell people to wait and watch End Game instead. no need to get so defensive. You don’t even know those reviewers. Lol. like I said, some may find it childish and genuinely don’t like it. Or fans of other movies opening may be slightly biased against it. But almost 10 percent of scores of less than 2, shows that it is quite divisive film. Which most people would agree it is not?
  13. It was not stuck between 2 huge marvel films, and did not even have high rotten tomatoes score / not so critically acclaimed from reviewers. Many people were already posting in box office forums (tieba) about how good Shazam is, and fans of other movies were genuinely worried this might take the limelight. Aquaman came out so long after the last Disney’s Marvel film, while Shazam is released right at the heat when everyone is taking about AEG’s confirmation of release dates/presales start date/tracking no. of likes increase on its Maoyan page etc. but of course not everyone will like Shazam, some might have really found it too childlish... but almost 9% of audiences giving below 2 (out of 10points) is just puzzling.
  14. I think marvel fans and many fans of other films opening are gunning for its downfall to be honest. 8.6% of audiences giving it below 2 (out of 10points), something is wrong. It is not that divisive. other films have at most around 3% of such scores, other than those really divisive films or artistic films. PS: you don’t actually need to buy tickets to give reviews.
  15. Maoyan score starts at 7.8 for SHAZAM One of the top negative reviews said that the movie should be released on Children’s Day. Not before Avengers: End Game. We know which brand’s fan this is... lol
  16. Which is weird considering the critics’ reviews which I have read were pretty savage. Lol
  17. A pity such a good movie will not do well at the box office; and its due mainly to bad release date and bad marketing imo. I already watched this twice and might go for IMAX this weekend. Really enjoyable flick with lots of heart.
  18. Just caught Shazam at the Singapore premiere. Lots of fun, lots of laughs, lots of surprises, good amount of action. For the China market taste, I think Maoyan score will be safely above 8.5, wouldn’t be surprised if it hovers above 9. Even if it doesn’t break out, I believe it will do well.
  19. Just came out of the Singapore premiere. Loved it!! So much fun, so much heart, so many surprises
  20. I understand the concern, especially if you do not know much history about this franchise and is just looking at what the previous entry in the franchise earned this is basically the fifth film in the franchise by Raymond Wong (also producer of the famous Ip Man films), the first 3 “storm” films were pretty bad/mediocre, but they managed to salvage the forth one last year. The forth film had one of the best release dates last year, with 0 Hollywood or local big competition. Now Raymond Wong has new found confidence for this series and quickly produced a fifth movie to release during this QingMing holiday period. Issue is that this is that type of movie where everyone is so neutral and will probably only watch if “there is nothing else to watch”. I don’t think it will break out at all, unless WoM is over the roof.
  21. Southeast Asian markets having sneak previews this weekend ahead of next week's release. WB's confidence can be felt.
