  1. It made almost exactly the same amount at the box office as its Ang Lee-directed predecessor, that's what's fascinating! But I've argued before that those receptions are proof that audiences have as many "issues" with a "serious" Hulk as the filmmakers might have... For me, "The Incredible Hulk" is still a better movie than about 90% of the rest of what the MCU produced in the years since. I watch it every couple of years. A monster-metaphor drama with real adult stakes, real adult sex, two great villains, excellent effects that fit into an aesthetic of the film that doesn't date, a beautiful and talented leading actress, William Motherfuckin' Hurt, a wonderfully wacky Tim Blake Nelson, a fabulous score from Craig Armstrong, great atmosphere and real emotions, an intriguing final shot that promised much more interesting things with Edward Norton's version that we never saw, copious deleted scenes which tell even more of the story, including a daring 'attempted suicide' opening... I could go on... What did the MCU do to him? Basically turned him into side-humor. By Endgame, he's literally the butt of jokes about impotency. People may love that...but not really know why. I'm not a fan of "Smart-Hulk." I like the ID with my ED. If the Hulk never rages, it teaches us to keep bottling things up...
  2. Ever notice how Marvel seems to have organized these into A-tier and B-tier years? You're right -- next year is clearly an A-tier year, all highest-profile entries spawned off of extremely successful previous entries (or in Strange's case, it's more of a Marvel-mash-up with Strange at the center). 2023 will be the oddballs B-tier -- Ant-Man, Guardians, The Marvels... This year was clearly a B-tier... but Shang-Chi turned out to be the unexpected success, and might end up making more at the box office than either Widow or Eternals...
  3. There are many different kinds of Producers. From what we know so far, Baldwin will not be found liable whatsoever in this case. As Gandalf said, "Do not be so quick to deal out death and judgment..."
  4. From my understanding, the quotes within Empire merely refer to these rumors of villains and the likely casting of them, which director Jon Watts then denies...
  5. Yeah...but that's what's so AWESOME about it! 😁 Like spice, I will love this movie until I die.
  6. Looooooooooove this director's two films with Gosling. This will be interesting.
  7. There ain't any time, if they're committing to having Part 2 out in October 2023. He'll be sinking right back into the sands...
  8. Gosling read the thread and my comments the other day, clearly...and decided to go confirm his WOLFMAN just to spite me. 🤣
  9. Agreed. No matter what I think of it when I see it, happy for you DUNEBros! It's nice to see major production companies/studios having some faith in a complicated IP for the longer term!
  10. I'm not sure I understand you. From what I'm seeing anecdotally, the theater experience of this film is precisely the problem for certain people. I.E. they're bored. And a trilogy can be fine...when you arc it the right way. The Lord of the Rings examples used here serve the point. Those movies worked. DUNE clearly works for certain people...just not as many -- and I would argue that the people it's working best for were already invested fans/readers of the book. But we need more quantifiable stats on this, sure. Disclaimer: I haven't seen Villeneuveeee's Dune, yet. Perhaps this week (yes, on the big screen). People keep saying this, but is there any evidence from Villeneuveeeee that he cut so much? Everyone cuts something, but I don't know if there's any indication that there's like an hour of usable stuff missing here??
  11. "Ambitious." "Emotional." "Deep." "Raises stakes." "Absolutely stunning." Words only someone who's been watching too many Marvel movies on a loop could come up with...
  12. Who are the "non-casual" critics??? I see a guy named "One Guy at the Movies." He's a serious art philosopher? Pardon me, I'm simply cynical about who these people are these days masquerading as so-called "critics." Don't get me started on "Grace." Oh, and... "HA.HA.HA.HA.HA." in Joker's droll laugh is my only response to this getting anywhere near JOKER's WW grosses. Can't agree, there. My guess is this one taps out around $500 mil. If that. This still doesn't have a China release, right folks?
  13. They both have their own unique sets of issues, sure. But they both equate to: "Story Problems." And these are not just the script assembled for the production, but of course often from the source material, itself, specifically in DUNE's case, which has made it historically one of theeeee most difficult stories to adapt into movies. See the doc JODOROWSKY's DUNE for more history...
  14. And this is what a user a few pages back (can't be arsed to find it) meant by "Cinema is Dead." If you can't tell a story without always leading to something else within a 2-3 hour timeframe, our culture has problems. Never-ending superhero universes and streaming TV have ruined people's singular story senses. If this book can't be encompassed in a 2-hour film, then it shouldn't have been made as a film -- it should be a mini-series... which sounds like the same problem that ETERNALS has.
  15. Yeah, I get that. But so-called "critics" are funny these days. Dude says he eats pop culture. That's all I need to know. Anyway, sounds like most of the major problems here are with the story/script. But it's hard to even judge that, as we never quite know how something changes when it's filmed and then when it's edited.
  16. "These characters only exist to add moral questions on a thematic level." What? So...like good characters are supposed to function? Who are these people that somehow think superhero movies can't engage these questions?
  17. Obviously true. Regardless. None of this matters, because Hartnett turned it down. I'm pretty sure Gosling has been offered a few big superhero roles over the years that he's turned down, too. But Gosling is totally a "Ken." The studio and Robbie and most of us here understand that. But Excel apparently knows better. 😉🤣 He's making a value judgment on Gosling's "handsomeness" when everyone defines it slightly differently. The industry clearly values Gosling more than most other dudes, lately. It's a fact. Somebody's making money from him somewhere...even if his movies don't *seem* to...
  18. Of course Nolan likes this [groan]... but big filmmakers are probably all in collusion to support the big screen experience, I get that... Disclaimer: I still haven't seen Villeneuveeee's DUNE...
  19. Exactamundo. The Sept. reshoots were the "planned" pick-ups. I'm betting these are completely new, based on the existing cut/reaction.
