  1. True. But it's not "everything." It's double-tragic-irony, because they're currently keeping most of the 20th Century Fox studio catalogue in their vault...at least for the U.S. market!
  2. Even ORSON WELLES was not immune from doing "blackface"... It's beyond time for the tables to be turned a bit... This looks great.
  3. Awful title that reveals everything we need to know -- that these last two movies aren't about what the series was originally intended to be. I look forward to two hours of Jude Law and Mads making googly-eyes at each other while they simultaneously attempt to blast each other out of existence...as Redmayne looks on from the sidelines with his own googly-eyes. That's what this series became in Film 2. Warners is clearly dumping this by setting the April date. I remain pessimistic on the entire prospect, but might catch it at home later just for Mads -- even a Mads-sellout performance is better than most performances in Hollywood movies, lately. His monologue-in-chains scene in Dr. Strange was the best thing in the movie.
  4. I don't see this one as more spoiler-y. If anything, the American/western main trailer is -- as a very specific character fate is basically shown there (as well as another character's reaction to it). For people who haven't read the book (and I haven't, admittedly), this trailer doesn't make any more sense than the western ones. 😂
  5. Movies on the big screen are ultimately about the EXPERIENCE. Cameron is the KING of that (yes, still in the world). If he's still passionate about AVATAR, he must have reason to be. "Doing something new" to Cameron IS doing these films. When more comes out about what they've actually been doing in filmmaking terms, hopefully people will understand the achievements here. But yes, all that matters here is the story and the experience. When was the last time a Cameron film ever really "disappointed"? That's right, never. (People can quibble about how TRUE LIES "doesn't age well", whatevs.) As he would say, "You're not seeing the big picture." But nothing I can say will convince anyone, only footage and the experience will do that. So let's wait and see. There will always be skeptics in anything in life. But yes, he should have directed BATTLE ANGEL, himself. 😉
  6. Getting there...but only 2 and 3 are really fully shot from a production end. Basically they're going to wait and see how 2 and 3 do first before fully committing to finishing off 4 and 5.
  7. And I'd be willing to bet that most of these people never saw AVATAR on the big screen. Whatevs.
  8. Blah blah blah. All these so-called "critiques" were around when the first film was released. So myopic. Having said that, yeah, Aqua2 and Avat2 might end up having some very similar themes and constructs (underwater)... They're currently scheduled for exactly the same date. I don't think that's happening. I think it's very possible that one of these will move...again.
  9. Yeah, well...he's still considered the heftiest filmmaker in Hollywood, despite the recent misstep of TENET. The question is, did one of the other studios offer more for less, i.e. offer him an even better deal if they could go streaming/simultaneous with it? Paramount+ would have loooooooved to have the exclusive license on the new Nolan...however, who knows if Paramount+ will still be around in 2023/2024? P.S. I still haven't seen TENET. 😂
  10. Serkis seems to claim here that the movie does indeed have a 90-minute runtime, and that he/the creative team always planned it that way... https://www.instagram.com/p/CT0Hk-Wj51E/
  11. Warner Bros. to JK Rowling: Seriously though, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Warners only made this third entry because of some contractual agreement with Rowling over the series, i.e. they guaranteed her they'd make at least three of these pics, even if they don't make all five. And I surely don't think they will, unless this one turns out to be a surprise comeback success...it's not unprecedented...but would be very surprising. The goose was cooked on Fantastic Beasts with the mess of the second film, and Depp's huge issues sunk any leftover momentum. I respect Mads for even taking this role and being so diplomatic about the whole thing in the press so far.
  12. Not sure which version you folks have watched...but for numerous versions released on home video through the years, the whole underwater climax did not even have MUSIC!! 😂 That's the way I think I first saw it when I was younger, on TV..and yep, it was tough to get through even then! A lot of the rest of the picture works, but for me, yeah, Thunderball was never one of my personal favorites, disagreeing with the majority of Bond fan-ship. And check out this nugget from the James Bond wiki!! Thunderball was delayed from an October 1965 release to December 1965. Peter Hunt stated this was due to the film running long; Variety reported the runtime to be four and half hours.
  13. Michael Bay says Hello. 🤣 And even though Bay had a memorable style in his heyday, I'm sure most things in this film will tier above almost all of Bay's work.
  14. Greatest example of bloating I've just seen -- REMINISCENCE -- this had at least 3-5 endings, many of which it didn't need. It could/should have been cut by 20+ minutes.
  15. Yep, of course -- but what do you expect Craig to want for his "final" entry? If he was going to come back at all, he wanted something to work with...
  16. ...And of course that's the joke -- neither one of them will really be "standalone," according to buzz... A "standalone" Dr. Strange sequel was never going to be made. It was always going to involve "more people."
  17. Interesting. The studio must know/think this, too -- the way they are using "Ridley Scott's Definitive Epic" as a tagline in that most recent 30-second spot. Anyone else feel free to chime in, but I don't know if I'd ever really classify ANYTHING Scott has done as "CAMP," consciously or otherwise... (OK, perhaps parts of THE COUNSELOR lean into it...) 😂 I think it's more that most people still don't really know how to apply the term "Camp." (But that's OK, it's creators and critics since have often disagreed about its application, too...)
  18. I'm betting that part of it is that studios are indeed getting greedy now, realizing that they can claim much more of the revenue by siphoning things directly through their own streaming services...and combined with yes, possibly prepping for an uncertain future/reading some tea leaves, nothing is guaranteed -- better to have at least one guaranteed funnel for content where some of the pluses go directly back to you, rather than the possibility that a theatrical flop would be little profit for either the Exhibition or the Studio. But a lot of this specifically with Paramount may simply have to do with Viacom/CBS, yes, and an overall restructuring at the corporate level -- if the incoming leadership doesn't see theatrical as a prime revenue source, they are pivoting. I don't know exactly where/how Netflix, Disney+, Paramount+, HBOMax are making all that money, either -- but that itself is the very problem -- if they are less beholden to "report" numbers, they are probably making plenty, and internally are finding ways to funnel off profits in more ways that can't be currently regulated.
  19. Does Nolan really think he's going to make a better movie than this??? BOOOORIIIING.
  20. Yes, and you can see Neo's face from what is probably the first film on a screen behind him as he stands in front of a mirror at 1:04. Something wild going on here, indeed... (I'm not reading any leaks/other spoilers!!!)
  21. All I wanna know is... did Keanu keep his long hair in this, or not?? I think it would have been cool...
  22. Enough of this already. Check her out in THE FAREWELL. Girl can act. It's cool if you don't dig her, but can we stop this "we must cancel you for one bad career choice you make"? Hey, it's an issue worth interrogating, OK; I can understand some feelings...but let's use this opportunity to talk about these things (and yes, she should, too). Stop hopping on the latest hate-trend on Twitter and start looking at the broader spectrum.
  23. Was going to say this, too... but didn't want to start an argument. I think this very well may have been a factor.
  24. The only way to even have some indication would be if HBO/Warners tout the streaming numbers in the trades post-opening weekend. If they don't...then we know it wasn't a substantial bump. (Sounds like ZS's Justice League simply wasn't worth all the trouble, for instance...we didn't hear a peep out of Warners/HBO after it debuted on its viewing numbers.) But yes, I'd veer towards believing that the simultaneous HBOMax debut in this COVID-era will only be a benefit DUNE's possibility of a sequel (no matter how much Villeneuve hates the choice), because they will be forgiving in this year of uncertainties. Word of mouth and rewatchability will all matter. We'll see...
  25. I'd say that this favors Johansson's case rather than not. The headline from THR reads "Shang-Chi Smashes Labor Day Record with $83mil-Plus" Yes, I know it's four days vs. three, and I know BW also had the Disney+ revenue, but perception is everything. The numbers are some *version* of reality...but the weight of what's been successful as pure-box office releases this summer vs. those titles that have chosen simultaneous streaming debuts rolls clearly in her argument's favor.
