  1. "Struck a deal to co-write" means there will be at least one other along the way! And just because they're attempting to write it, of course, doesn't mean it will happen...but yes, I think this thing simply made too much money for them to just let it go...
  2. Anything's possible. I think everything stands as it has been announced...unless/until they change it. 😉
  3. Nice to see some great discussion of FILM HISTORY in this thread! TCM doesn't "own" anything, but I think you're talking about the Ted Turner-owned catalogue of pre-1986 MGMs that was eventually picked up by Warners? https://press.aboutamazon.com/news-releases/news-release-details/amazon-and-mgm-have-signed-agreement-amazon-acquire-mgm Above is the official press release from Amazon. Film rights can get contentious for a number of reasons, but certain titles here oddly stick out. They mention POLTERGEIST and BASIC INSTINCT -- the former of which is owned by Warners through the pre-86 Turner MGM buy. As far as INSTINCT, that is more debatable and confusing -- as StudioCanal own the film and I think also many home video rights, and they had previously licensed it out to Lionsgate in the U.S. for many years (as they had a previously existing deal with Carolco), but there is a new 4K restoration that Rialto has helped with. MGM has BASIC INSTINCT 2, from my understanding and might own "sequels and future franchise iterations"...but the only one people really care about is the original. So why is MGM/Amazon claiming they have the original title, which would no doubt entice investors/consumers to get PRIME so they could watch it? AGREED. I thought my older Vizio TV was compensating with an older version of the app, but good to know I'm not crazy. Just one of the many reasons that I decided to QUIT Amazon Prime this week. The interface has always been shoddy, lots of curios of titles I was never 100% compelled to watch, and their shipping and customer service behavior has, particularly in recent months, really disappointed me. Watching NOMADLAND also made me reconsider how much I'm contributing to the big machine of corporate shuffling. "Too big for their britches" comes to mind. So what was I paying for? I'm done. Good point and kind of a sad state of affairs. I think many studios would have paid around $4-5 billion for the BOND franchise alone... It's a valuable library for someone who knows what to do with it...but that has always been the real question. Well, Stallone has been working on *two* different ROCKY spin-off projects, a Prequel TV series and perhaps one more spin-off present-day film where "Rocky mentors an illegal immigrant from the border"... so I'd say Amazon's backing might very well make these more likely to happen! 😂 He also has a Director's Cut of ROCKY IV finished up...I could very well see that being a PRIME exclusive...
  4. Uh... by "genius blockbuster" I mean... I would rather go back and watch any Bay movie from the 1990s than almost any Hollywood blockbuster from the last 10 (or possibly even 20) years... There's a style and brash attitude there in the filmmaking that is wonderful entertainment, no matter how "stupid" the films may seem... and top quality tech credits and practical effects that aren't glossed over by copious CGI and "digital glossing."
  5. JDW? I'm not hip on current Hollywood acronyms... Anyway, this guy's pic in the Variety announcement says it all... 😂 https://variety.com/2021/film/news/aaron-taylor-johnson-kraven-the-hunter-1234982555/
  6. Hey there... I ain't necessarily talking about *my* reaction to it all... but audiences, critics, internet, the whole shebang that comes with it... the "cultural discussion" it encouraged. No one involved in this production wants another one of "those" moments, I'm sure... And all those other moments work because they worked in movies that were infinitely better. It's as simple as that. Anything's believable as long as the audience buys into it from the beginning. It's when they don't that there's a problem...
  7. Yes... which is why I said "from the last ten years"...most Bay pre-Formers is genius blockbuster filmmaking. And by "divisive"...you know who/what I'm talking about.
  8. Obviously... so boring by now. Take a stand, people! And Tyrese mentioned every other opening country *except* China in his bit in that promo video, so why aren't they angry at him?? 🙄
  9. And the final scene in the teaser shows us that the Eternals are indeed directly in-tune with recent happenings in the Marvel Universe. Why is that unclear? Newsflash... the Eternals probably made mistakes, too. If they were perfect, what's the interest? Boring...
  10. Live free, love free. No major director currently in the film business exemplifies this more than Waititi! Bravo. 😂
  11. As one of Eternals will probably say at some point in the movie: "We don't think in such small-minded terms." I'm betting a significant part of the plot for present-day happenings will revolve around what happened with ENDGAME (the final dialogue confirms this) and that the Eternals see that this is the moment when they need to get involved... humanity can't handle it's own shit anymore. Perfect metaphor for reality right now. Too perfect. If only we had some Eternals to help convince people to wear masks and take vaccines...and not believe conspiracy theories. 😉
  12. OK, I'll put "human beings" in quotes... obviously we know most of them were... 😂 But you know what I'm saying. Never underestimate Disney's conservatism, yes... but I find it hard to believe they'd have any issue with this plot point... But yes, it would probably still be allowed to be more interesting and nuanced under different studio. Although my assertion is that most major Hollywood studios are more conservative now than they have ever been...and it's boring.
  13. To offer a fair counterpoint: Filmmakers compromise all the time for big studio product. If Lucasfilm/Spielberg/Disney comes to Mangold and offers him the keys to the Indiana Jones kingdom (no pun intended), do you think he or almost anyone else wouldn't be agreeable to at least a bit of compromise/debate on story/approach? I'm sure Mangold's as work-with-able as any other top tier filmmaker worth their salt...if they weren't, they don't get to the level they do on studio productions. Mangold is a splendid storyteller who I think has only gotten better with each film lately, and I'm sure he'll be willing to fight for what he believes is the right vision for this...but he wouldn't have gotten the job unless they knew he would be able to "work with them" too. Indeed, I think everyone is putting the cart ahead of the horse in terms of worrying about said possible plot point. It would be nice if there weren't a "nuke the fridge" moment here...but we'll see.
  14. The F&F aren't "great" but they're better than any recent Bay or Snyder flicks from the last ten years...and they don't divide audiences.
  15. Variety's take: “If Barbara isn’t on board with this, things could be very difficult,” says an executive who has worked on Bond films. 😂 https://variety.com/2021/film/news/mgm-amazon-james-bond-sale-1234979005/
  16. BOND and this year's MGMs definitely staying theatrical if the sale goes through...but no guarantees about other upcoming 2022 films... https://deadline.com/2021/05/amazon-mgm-theatrical-distribution-no-time-to-die-film-slate-1234762211/ And Variety's take on all this: https://variety.com/2021/film/news/mgm-amazon-james-bond-sale-1234979005/
  17. You're forgetting the most logical and obvious option here: BLACK WIDOW. Spoilers won't be an issue because it officially opens that week, Friday, July 9th. CANNES is set to begin Tuesday, July 6th -- they want to open the festival with a splash to create buzz again after this troubled past year. WIDOW includes an award-nominated/winning international cast known to the Cannes/international audience, including the rising/acclaimed Vanessa Kirby, Rachel Weiss, and of course Scarlett Johanssen. Who wouldn't pass up the opportunity to invite these three beauties together for a red carpet premiere?? Also, Australian director Cate Shortland's 2004 feature premiered at Cannes and was entered into the "Un Certain Regard" category at Cannes that year (prestigious). Cannes gets mainstream global headlines, Marvel/Disney get Cannes attention -- It's a win-win for everyone involved. Having said that, I'm willing to bet Thierry also might have discussed ETERNALS and DUNE with their respective studios. Both are from award-nominated global directors and both have certain awards buzz already. I was lucky enough to first attend Cannes in 2019, and experienced an impromptu appearance from Thierry at one of the pavilions on the wonderful beaches there. He believes in quality, of course, but he also understands the value of attention-getting films that will always keep the Cannes Film Festival in the headlines as the *premiere* film destination of the year.
  18. Her voice is quite threatening enough, in itself. Everytime I dare to open one of her videos, her opening cackle nearly destroys my speakers.
  19. Even though most of this is still classified as "rumor" -- I would say this veering dangerously close to SPOILER material for now, and should be regarded as such.
