Every summer has good and bad movies.
This summer we've had plenty of good stuff...
Civil War
Finding Dory
Central Intelligence
The Conjuring 2
The Shallows
The Nice Guys
Swiss Army Man
Secret Life of Pets
Popstar
The Lobster
Love & Friendship
If you think this summer sucks more than others, you're clearly only paying attention to the tentpoles.
Especially the first one. I don't think any Tarzan movie, no matter how good it was, could make much more than this one did in 2016. 180mil is crazy for a Tarzan movie.
I'm so glad this is happening. Studio execs are already rethinking some things. Hell, they may have canceled Pitch Perfect 3 because of it.
They'll find some other way to avoid being original, of course, but less unnecessary sequels is a good thing.
I didn't like Inarritu that much until Birdman. I like Bay when he's in blockbuster mode, not so much when he's trying to get people to take him seriously i.e. 13 Hours, Pearl Harbor, Pain and Gain.
The first one was better. It wasn't great, but there were moments that stood out. This one? Just terrible end to end. Maybe you could point to some of the CG camerawork that follows the turtles around as something cool, but otherwise....this movie is so dumb it doesn't even bother to properly introduce its main villain to the audience.
