WB just put out a perfect trailer to drive sales and get a whole lot of people interested in this, especially older people. I would expect it helps with a bump this week.
I tried to tell everyone Elvis was going to do really well like a year ago and got laughed at by more than a few people.
I'll be the one laughing this weekend.
I liked The Black Phone, but to be fair the initial screenings were held at Fantastic Fest last September where writer C. Robert Cargill lives and essentially has been an Alamo Drafthouse customer and friend for 25 years. That was about the most friendly and loyal crowd to show this movie to.
It is more like a 70% RT positive movie, not the 100% that stuck there for the last 8-9 months.
From everything I hear it is legit, and the 120 day window is perfect and takes it right to the end of September. If Paramount is smart, I would then go PVOD for 60 days and have it hit Paramount+ in December for the holiday.
