  1. FB may not a good comparison, but if even MJ1 and MJ2 is best "candidates" to compare with, I dont know what else can be used
  2. I've complied a list, with the average rating of all the BP's nominees on RT for each year since BP's expansion, in 5 years out of 8, the academy picked the movie with highest RT AVERAGE RATING as their best picture. My theory is, many voters don't know how to rank the nominees, therefore, they are just go for what critics picked based on the score on metacritic, RT or whatever 2009: Avatar(75%) Up(87%) Inglourious Basterds(78%) District 9(78%) Up in the Air(81%) Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire(78%) The Hurt Locker(85%) An Education(79%) A Serious Man(79%) 2010: Toy Story 3(89%) Inception(81%) True Grit(83%) The King's Speech(86%) Black Swan(82%) The Social Network(90%) The Fighter(78%) The Kid are Alright(79%) 127 Hours(83%) Winter's Bone(83%) 2011: The Help(70%) The Descendants(81%) War Horse(70%) Moneyball(80%) Hugo(83%) Midnight in Paris(78%) The Artist(88%) The Tree of Life(78%) 2012: Lincoln(80%) Django Unchained(80%) Les Miserables (69%) Argo(84%) Silver Linings Playbook(82%) Life of Pi(79%) Zero Dark Thirty(86%) Beasts of the Southern Wild(82%) Amour(87%) 2013: Gravity(90%) American Hustle(82%) The Wolf of Wall Street(78%) Captain Phillips(83%) 12 Years a Slave(90%) Philomena(78%) Dallas Buyers Club(78%) Her(85%) Nebraska(80%) 2014: American Sniper(69%) The Imitation Game(77%) The Grand Budapest Hotel(84%) Selma(87%) Birdman(85%) The Theory of Everything(73%) Boyhood(92%) Whiplash(86%) 2015: The Martian(78%) The Revenant(79%) Mad Max: Fury Road(86%) Bridge of Spies(77%) The Big Short(78%) Spotlight(88%) Brooklyn(84%) Room(84%) 2016: Hidden Figures(76%) La La Land(86%) Arrival(84%) Hacksaw Ridge(72%) Fences(77%) Lion(73%) Manchester by the Sea(89%) Moonlight (90%) Hell or High Water(85%)
  3. there has no way for JL to drop more than 70% on monday isn't it? The friday to OW weekend's ratio, JL is bigger than MJ1 and MJ2 and JL's sunday drop is better than MJ1 and 2, all suggest that the legs are on par with MJ, meaning 65% drop for JL is more realistic

After three weeks, the horror flick has sold over 870,000 admissions. So far, both its second and third weekends have been greater than its opening weekend. It has already exceeded a multiplier of 6 (6.18) as well, and nothing should slow it down anytime soon -- at least not until Star Wars/Yo-Kai Watch slash holdover screens/theaters again for a third-consecutive year. I'm going to project it'll at least double its current three week total, exceeding ¥2 billion (~$20 million), and could reach ¥2.5 billion (~$25 million). >High & Low 3: Final Mission actually managed a decent second weekend hold, and despite debuting 14% below its predecessor, it should finish within 10% of its total. The third film in the High & Low film project has exceeded 500,000 admissions. >Godzilla: Planet of Monsters disappoints with a third place debut, although it did managed to open above ¥100 million thanks to a rather high avg. ticket price. Toho's first in a planned trilogy of animated films in its Godzilla franchise, and 30th overall release, sold 71,205 admissions across 158 screens over the weekend frame (and 102,085 since opening on Friday). >Thor: Ragnarok falls to fourth place in its third weekend, and is on the cusp of exceeding the ¥1 billion (~$10 million) milestone now. Not only is the milestone considered the commercial success mark in the market, but it's also the mark that most Marvel/DC films strive for with only 59% of them (and just 45% when excluding Spider-Man films) making it. >The Stand-In Thief comes in fourth place over the weekend, selling 66,970 admissions over the weekend on 225 screens. The debut is certainly mediocre, but it does come in rather well in comparison to most other live-action Showgate releases, so I'm sure they're fairly satisfied. >Logan Lucky manages an eighth place debut in an incredibly close battle -- less than $3,000 separated the bottom three Top 10 films -- at the bottom of the Top 10. The film sold 46,161 admissions over the weekend on 304 screens. This is obviously a poor debut, but there were no expectations here, so... shrug* >And a special mention: Kubo and the Two-Strings finally debuted in Japan, but only managed to earn ¥10,829,900 ($97,000) on 8,128 admissions across 48 screens.
  5. From corpse: With the success of IT, I'm currently compiling a list of highest-grossing horror films. I've never had to do this before, since the genre is rarely successful at the box office, so it's proving pretty difficult. Also, the horror genre itself is very broad with action, suspense, thriller, psychological, monster, supernatural, and slasher films possibly falling into the horror category as well. So, I want some help. I'm going to post my list soon, which I've heavily restricted to what I'd consider a horror film, which is going to leave off a significant number of potential entries. I want anyone reading this to make their own lists of "horror" films that like to add for consideration to be placed on the list. Thanks. Highest-Grossing Horror Films of All-Time (1980-)¥7.68 billion ($73.1 million) - The Sixth Sense (1999)¥3.30 billion ($26.6 million) - Ringu 2 (1999)¥2.50 billion ($22.9 million) - School Ghost Stories 2 (1996)¥2.34 billion ($29.4 million) - Lesson of the Evil (2012)¥2.32 billion ($14.5 million) - School Ghost Stories (1995)¥1.90 billion ($17.9 million) - Sleepy Hollow (2000)¥1.78 billion ($14.7 million) - School Ghost Stories 3 (1997)¥1.75 billion ($14.2 million) - The Ring (2002)¥1.70 billion ($15.5 million) - The Village (2004)¥1.70 billion ($6.9 million) - Lifeforce (1985)¥1.65 billion ($10.2 million) - Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1995)¥1.60 billion ($12.9 million) - The Others (2002)¥1.55 billion ($12.5 million) - Ringu (1998)¥1.50 billion ($13.7 million) - One Missed Call (2003)¥1.35 billion ($17.3 million) - Sadako 3D (2012)¥1.22 billion ($10.5 million) - As the Gods Will (2014)¥1.10 billion ($9.5 million) - Ju-On: The Grudge 2 (2003)¥1.02 billion ($10.8 million) - The Complex (2013)¥1.01 billion ($8.7 million) - One Missed Call 2 (2005)¥1.00 billion ($9.5 million) - Sadako vs. Kayako (2016)IT, at the very least, will finish at #6 on this list, and could go as high as #3.But again, feel free to suggest other films for consideration for this list. There are some biggies missing that I, personally, never really considered horror films such as Gremlins and Ghostbusters. Also, if anyone has any data on The Exorcist, please share. It hasn't been included in any all-time lists in Japanese articles/sources, but its foreign total ($208 million) suggests it had to earn a significant sum from Japan at the time.
  6. WB later in the statement "That has been a mistake for WW's number in this summer, should be $406m the final total, meanwhile, Justice League open to $100m! Spectacular opening, 7th highest of the year!!
  7. where did u get your education, i bet u are one of the in WB executive, never learned I am deeply disappointed with $95m opening even that is not my money and I am fans, I couldn't imagine anyone in WB/DC now would smile looking at that number
  8. the real problem with JL is WB keep thinking that a serious/dark film can't money, but the truth is, it is a bad movie can't make money. They think they can get the audience by making crowd-pleaser and try to mask critics, but the truth is, audience are with critics, except for SS, the poor legs of MOS,BVS and awesome legs for WW, actually indicate that the audience are quite agree with critics, they have failed to understand the power of critics, if you can't please critics, don't ever try to make a trailer....even SH genre are in the peak right now....

  12. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/james-camerons-titanic-lands-20th-anniversary-release-theaters-1058456 James Cameron's 'Titanic' Lands 20th Anniversary Rerelease in Theaters The classic film will be shown in AMC Theatres equipped with Dolby Cinema. James Cameron's Titanic will be released in select AMC Theatres to celebrate its 20-year anniversary, Dolby Laboratories announced Wednesday in partnership with Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox. The Oscar-winning movie — starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio — will play in 87 theaters equipped with Dolby Cinema for an exclusive one-week run, beginning Dec. 1. It will be shown in both 2D and 3D. Titanic, which first sailed into theaters Dec. 19, 1997, remains the No. 2 top-grossing film of all time ($2.19 billion) behind Cameron's Avatar, not accounting for inflation. "We mastered a few minutes of Titanic in Dolby Vision and I was stunned. It was like seeing it for the first time. Now that the entire film as been mastered, I'm excited to share it with audiences across the U.S.," Cameron said in a statement. "This is beyond 3D, beyond 70mm, it's beyond anything you've ever seen before." Added Dolby senior vp Doug Darrow: "Our partnership with James and Paramount has enabled us to showcase a masterpiece of theater in the most incredible way." Tickets go on sale Nov. 15.

WK3>High & Low 3: Final Mission debuts atop the box office, selling 237,212 admissions over the weekend on 318 screens. The opening is 14% below its predecessor; however, third film in the High & Low film project received some advance screenings prior to its opening, quite rare in today's market, and sold 282,505 admissions in total so far. Yesterday, I said it'd probably take awhile to reach the ¥1 billion ($10 million) milestone, and it still will, but it should get there in 4/5 weeks. >IT is the real winner and big story of this weekend, increasing a phenomenal 22% in its second weekend. The retelling of Stephen King's novel also exceeded 500,000 admissions after nine days in release, which is also a nice accomplishment in the horror genre. It's still early to project a total, but it's very likely to approach the ¥2 billion ($20 million) milestone and I wouldn't be too surprised if it climbs closer to ¥2.5 billion ($25 million). I can't actually recall any horror film actually exceeding ¥2 billion right now, but I'll do some research into the genre this week. >Thor: Ragnarok slips to third place dropping 40% in its second weekend, which is a pretty standard decline for most Marvel/DC films in the market. After just two weeks in release, the third Thor film has already become the highest-grossing film in the franchise, outgrossing both of its predecessors. >Is the Order a Rabbit? Dear My Sister, a 60-minute special episode of the anime, made a surprising and very impressive debut in fourth place over the weekend. The special episode sold 79,471 admissions on only 40 screens, achieving an excellent psa in the process.
  15. are the crowd confused? When they saw Wonder woman in the trailer/poster of JL, they thought it is the movie Wonder that she is in
