Might as well showcase the sequences I left out of the top for being redundant
Going back a couple decades, we're back in Hong Kong for this one.
Police Story 4: First Strike (1996)
Directed by: Stanley Tong
Fight Choreography: Stanley Tong, Vic Wilson
Starring: Jackie Chan, Jackson Lou, Annie Wu
Worldwide Box office: $21,890,845 ($15,318,863 domestic)
My rating for this movie: ★★★
Synopsis: This installment of Chan's Police Story film franchise has our hero trying to locate a missing nuclear warhead.
Interestingly enough, the Hong Kong version of this movie is quite hard to find, especially in good quality, and this sequence is longer in it which is part of the reason why people are still looking for it. The international release (including USA release) is much shorter.
Jackie Chan fights with a ladder. Need I say more?
A classic!

The fights are way too one-sided in Kickboxer but they're still enjoyable, especially when they ramp up the brutality.
And JCVD, well... it's JCVD! Perfect form.

I'm gonna kick this off with a recent movie, and a hilarious fight scene!
Upgrade (2018)
Directed by: Leigh Whannell
Fight Choreography: Chris Weir, Michael M Foster
Starring: Logan Marshall-Green, Melanie Vallejo, Steve Danielsen
Box office: $14,316,615 worldwide ($11,916,615 domestic)
My rating for this movie: ★★★★
Synopsis: Set in the near-future, technology controls nearly all aspects of life. But when Grey, a self-identified technophobe, has his world turned upside down, his only hope for revenge is an experimental computer chip implant called Stem.
I love this fight scene because it uses cinematic techniques to further give a soul and aesthetic to the fight. It's not just about framing and cutting in expert fashion to give gravitas to the scene, but to do it in a way that helps understand the perspective of the character doing the fighting. The camera moves are excessive but at the same time, they're meaningful. Obviously not everyone likes that kind of cinematography but for what's it's trying to be and make us feel, I loved it. It sets itself apart quite nicely.
By the end of the movie it does become a bit convoluted but I think this scene and the next in the bar encompass the best of what it has to offer.
A wonderful fight from a movie that's not so well-known, I recommend it. It's on google play.
NSFW - very violent

Sometimes I just wanna share some cool fights with you guys. And discuss or offer some insight into them. Every time I'd just... not do it. No more!
Since my top is now closed for further replies, I figured I'd just create a new, different thread.
So let this be a repository for cool movie fight sequences. Anybody can join in on the discussion and fun!
Format: You're welcome to follow my format but really... just do whatever you want
Except -- try your best to find at least some box office data on the movie. Sometimes it's impossible but this is, after all, a box office website.
Happy watching people kick the shit out of each other!

So my #1 won the last top 100 all-time (Fellowship), and now my #1 wins a top again (Inside Out)
Jesus. I guess I like popular stuff. Makes sense, on a box office forum

While we wait, if you guys are interested in what is basically Hong Kong's Charlie's Angels (it was inspired by the TV show not the more recent movies), I suggest you check this one out, a mostly unknown action masterclass:

Prepare for balls-to-the-wall action

and nope. i've never contradicted anyone in my life.
I might have went overboard with the "locked in" part I concede.

Do you stalk these forums looking for things to contradict?

Those who want to know more about this new, mostly unknown director, here's a short interview with her (don't worry about the title, it's in English):
Many are saying The Rider is locked in for a Best Director nomination at this year's oscars, so expect to learn a lot about her in the coming months/year

List sent. Not too much of an animation buff but I included all those I deem good enough to make a "top"

We know next to nothing about this and yet it already feels like they're gonna knock it out of the park.
When will Kevin Feige's invincible streak reach an end?
I say when he quits because of some stupid Disney decision that is sure to come one day, eventually. You can always count on corporate greed to fuck things up, whether it takes 1 or 10 years they will fuck this up at some point.

So this movie is yet another reminder of just how much money is being wasted on Hollywood productions.
5 million dollars and this movie has better CGI and action scenes than most blockbusters including (and especially) the likes of phenomenon Black Panther.
I liked the fight choreography aesthetics. Sure it was filled with quick cuts but that was actually the point. I'm not gonna delve into spoilers here but at least this movie understood the reasons why it chose to frame and cut the fights the way it did, really one of those few instances of a director filming action in a way that serves the story and not just for some specific thrills (although it's an added bonus).
It's just a nice, self-contained sci-fi movie that knows exactly what it wants to be. Sure the acting isn't anything to write home about, but it's adequate enough for me to give it a pass on that front. The writing, however, is pretty good and plays sufficient ball with its characters for it to be engrossing.
Director Leigh Whannell will be one to watch for sure. More movies like this please!

I hope one day a Chinese movie will be popular in the West again, like Crouching Tiger and Hero (only Chinese movie to be #1 for a week-end in the US) were.
-
Is #39 Thanos? lmao
-
Awesome! Glad the Chinese love this, because it's a quality action movie

Haven't seen Upgrade yet would you recommend it for the fights baumer? (of course it's not the only thing I'm looking for but you know!)

Aragorn makes for a terrific co-protagonist in LOTR, brilliant portrayal by Viggo Mortensen who plays the reluctant hero to minute precision.
A shame the oscars don't have an ensemble cast category (a must imo, a movie isn't always about 1 or 2 characters) because LOTR would have +1 oscar per movie

I think most of the themes in Ant-Man 2 resonate well with Chinese audiences. The ex-convict looking once again for salvation (along with protecting his daughter), the elderly husband who wants to save his wife, and a bitter villain fighting mostly for survival. I've seen most of those tropes in various Chinese movies, especially the bitter villain one.
Not surprised over the good reception!

Thanos for #1 ???
I didn't have time to ponder over and submit a list but if I had, Gandalf would be #1 I think
Jules from Pulp Fiction, Agent Smith, Yoda, Rey, and Aragorn would all rank very high.
Great job @chasmmi, and keep up the good work!

Sorry about not being able to participate in this list, finally back from Indianapolis, maybe next year I could try to meet someone there. @Blankments are you near Indianapolis?
17 hours drive. Easy
2nd half of July and up until today was crazy for me, so it was a no go. Definitely eager to see the choices though!
