My main problem with The Edge of Seventeen right there (although it's still a pretty good movie) Regardless of her attractiveness though and how much it doesn't work in the movie, she's definitely got the acting chops. Watched True Grit recently and she fully deserved that oscar nomination -- although I call bullshit on the supporting role

I have a feeling it was kind of a miss on the "rock bottom" part though. I mean, guy has an uber-rich and hot ex-wife who still likes him (although not loves him), and like those typical stories do he "just can't accept her money" because he has to do it himself. Nice safety net! Then he sets off on this journey after hitting that "rock bottom" which basically consists of quitting his job and getting humiliated in public -- let's not forget that his humiliation and the ensuing popularity it got him is what gave him the possibility of coming back in the first place since he was famous now. I mean, at some point he sure had it pretty bad but nothing I would call "Rock Bottom", especially with that safety net. I also just can't help but feel things just go way toooo easy on him once his project starts. It's like he's living in this fairy tale world where if you put in some hard work and shift the momentum, everything will magically fall into place and your efforts will be rewarded, almost without limits (at least for him). The whole story just felt forced to me. It was a nice movie overall with some pretty good performances, but that's all it was in my opinion. I'd give it a 7

So I watched the Sixth Sense earlier (with all this talk of M Night recently, no choice ) and holy shit, I'm still trying to recover really. I knew the twist but never got to watching the movie until today... and it's amazing! Now I understand why this movie just wouldn't drop at the BO, I mean the word of mouth with that ending must have been just out of this world. I saw it coming and even then, I was like jesus, this ending just packs a fucking wallop! Great stuff. People in the seats back in 1999 must have thought: This is an instant classic. gg

I think The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is a better Battle Royale movie than, well, Battle Royale Mockingjay Part 1 and 2 are horrendous though. 1st one is average at best. I just enjoy how Catching Fire subverts everything that made the first one average by turning the actual point of the story on its head, and adds this touch of cynicism as well that just makes it work. It's tense, much better directed than the 1st, flows really well, and has great characters with believable motivations, which is what the other 3 movies lack. It also tells a pretty interesting story, more interesting, at least to me, than Battle Royale's.

Still, X-men movies generally have bad legs, maybe Logan will be different. This week will be very important for that -

This week-end will be very interesting. Get Out is poised to have a smooth drop, and who knows what will happen to Logan DOFP and Apocalypse both had horrendous 2nd week-end drops, can Logan break this mold?
