  1. Fucking Paramount man. Johnny Knoxville did not suffer through concussions and broken ribs and an eye popping out of its socket for this to miss my summer game top 15.
  2. Underlined the only good thing to come out of that entire movie
  3. This is growing into another The House That Jack Built debate especially now that some "public permission", whatever that is, has come into it.
  4. lol I went back to check it out. battery's answers are directly below mine and exactly the same except for Part B where they're also pretty close. you're on thin ice here kiwi
  5. This sucked. But not because it was adapted by a "stylistic director" into its own thing, simply because that own thing is mostly banal and tedious instead of campy fun. Nicole Kidman cursing and laughing her way through the movie in a Siouxsie Sioux-esque getup is the best thing about it but not enough to make it all worthwhile.
  6. Same PTA as The Witch would give this a $10m opening in 2300+ theaters. Rooting for it to do it.
  7. If it helps there's some stuff in the RTM thread from me and Joel M, who rates it as highly as I do, about why we respond to it so much. It took a couple of viewings.
  8. Annual rewatch of Dazed and Confused. Still may or may not be my favorite movie.
  9. Also please Jumanji doesn't change that Jake Kasdan is and shall forever be known as the director of Walk Hard before anything else.
  10. Like I said I'm speaking more in hindsight. If you showed me TGS and then told me its box office story I would say okay that's pretty insane but I can sorta see how that could happen because the movie is such a shamelessly aggressive feelgood delivery machine it practically makes an art out of it. I see why people would want to experience it again. Jumanji to me is such a basic, whatever movie even now I have trouble understanding how it had those legs post-holidays.
  11. Going just by my impression of the movies honestly both BP's heights and Showman's 20x multi make more sense to me than Jumanji's legs.
  12. I watched A Quiet Place the day after I pulled a double feature of monsters-hunting-by-sound classics in Tremors and The Descent and uh yeah it couldn't help but suffer in comparison. Not that I would have been a fan otherwise, but watching them all close together was instructive. Like for one thing it's much more effective when the characters encounter the threat suddenly and have to adapt to it immediately than when they've been living with that threat for a year offscreen and we have to watch 45 minutes of worldbuilding before the really good stuff begins.
  13. Can't wait for Fallout. Curious but cautious about Incredibles because the original is my favorite Pixar and superhero movie, it has a magic I really doubt can be recaptured. Ocean's 8 looks like it might be good fun. Don't really care about any other big ones. I'll go see Solo next week probably but more out of obligation than anything.
  14. T'Challa in Black Panther is the least interesting out of its 10-12 most prominent characters and I wouldn't say it's really "about" its themes in any meaningful way. Just cause it brings them up doesn't mean it's deep all of a sudden. If anything it works best at its most visceral, like in the one-on-one combat scenes. Regardless both BP and IW are barely above average and I'm not looking forward to them being non-stop worshipped here till, well, their 2019 analogues in Captain Marvel and A4.
  15. Admit it all you actually wanted from the new Star Wars was to see an old white male drink space cow milk, not diversity
  16. Watched Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Some fantastic music in here and a great lead character & performance, only wish that any of the story in between the songs had actually gotten to me. Pretty rushed and surface-level as it is.
