  1. Do I get four likes or more for that though?
  2. That one still frustrates me somewhat, although I do like it a lot more now than I did before.
  3. Like most Kubricks it becomes richer and more rewarding when you go back to it. My reaction on first viewing was similar to yours, now it might be my favorite of his.
  4. Nothing gets me outta here quicker than sports talk.
  5. Couple of tips on Barry Lyndon for whenever you sit down to watch it: 1. The intermission is there for a reason. Use it. 2. If anything at any point strikes you as funny, don't resist laughing. Nothing wrong with you or the movie, no matter how stately it might seem on the surface
  6. Having seen it I honestly don't expect any of the other major contenders to be as good as CMBYN. Which means it won't win.
  7. Yeah it'll be a missed opportunity not to get that wide before Thanksgiving especially since it sounds like a crowd-pleaser.
  8. Well done although Darjeeling is like the most minor of the Andersons.
  9. No offense but do you live inside a decades-old TV commercial? Most filmgoers won't even be aware that this movie exists. And Veteran's Day did nothing for Billy Lynn last year. This won't yet be wide during the holiday anyway.
  10. Given the reviews are barely on the above-average side this might not even end up having enough juice for a wide release. Lady Bird and Three Billboards would overshadow this on Thanksgiving anyway if they went wide or semi-wide (I definitely expect LB will).
  11. Why would anyone want to be told exactly how to react to it?
  12. Gwyneth Paltrow gets legit props for her Halloween costume.
  13. You probably won't have much problem getting into The New World then. I actually found it more accessible and emotionally direct than Thin Red Line. They're all great films, anyway.
  14. What he said. Otherwise a lot of movies listed are my own blindspots that I can't wait to fix (Seven Samurai, McCabe, Sweet Smell of a Success, The Graduate, Don't Look Now especially). Out of what I've seen Paris Texas, Rushmore and Repulsion would be solid gets in addition to the above. The New World might be top 3 Malick, if you're down with his style then definitely grab it, if you haven't seen his first three, I'd recommend getting to them first. Also very much like Last Temptation, as an atheist it brought me closer than anything ever did to understanding why people believe, it's very moving and Dafoe is wonderful in it. But it's also somewhat challenging and an advanced study as far as Scorsese goes. Gotta see it at some point anyway, though.
  15. If it gets an expansion in the next couple of weeks, yes.
  16. The saga isn't over 101 122 The Boss Baby Fox $838 +157.1% 2 - $419 $175,001,129 - 31
  17. Absolutely loved this. You have to be unbelievably confident in and comfortable with yourself to create something so unforced and warm and generous and funny and human. I could have watched it for days.
  18. Coolest thing I've seen in a movie theater recently was the filmed Shakespeare's Globe production of Twelfth Night, with Stephen Fry as Malvolio and Mark Rylance as Olivia. An absolute delight.
