  1. Well, Di Caprio won for dumber reasons and the competition this year isn't much better. They'll give it to him for his career if nothing else. Chalamet pulling an Adrien Brody, or DDL delivering such an all-timer of a performance that they can't help but reward him again are both fun possibilities but pretty unlikely. Other people's chances are even smaller. For now I pretty much just hope to see Dafoe, James Ivory and Deakins win theirs. Don't have horses in any other races.
  2. Ironically this is one of your few "locked" takes I agree with. Well, if "locked" means "as close to locked as it gets pre-nominations", just like how say Amy Adams last year was locked until oops.
  3. Because I'm a pop culture slave I'm constantly torn about whether I like my coffee more Black As Midnight On A Moonless Night or with Lotsa Cream, Lotsa Sugar.
  4. Love the early snow. It snowed here for a few hours today. So beautiful. We actually haven't even really got any autumnal slush and mud this year, the roads stayed dry and clean until a few days ago and now it's all covered with snow already.
  5. Amazon releases a lot of its films through Lionsgate and they could be a big enough distributor for this. Netflix is obviously not an option for QT.
  6. the weekend thread for quoting a (meaningless, but I don't care enough to argue with the mods) line from Jigsaw.
  7. Broke my threadban cherry. I feel like such an awesome daring outlaw. Awww yeah. Mhmmm. Real bad boy here. Just can't handle me.
  8. Annihilation is at least supposed to be brilliant, and maybe it'll be a minor breakout. MI6 should perform on par with the last two. Maybe an unexpected hit here or there. But otherwise yeah.
  9. Darkest Hour would be wise to go wide on Dec 8. Be the only quality adult drama playing wide until Christmas (except for Murder on Orient Express but that'll be a month old at that point).
  10. I hope Skarsgard's brother is bald and Eisenberg has his Lex Luthor hair.
  11. From what I understand Clooney took a Coens script from 30 years ago that they never bothered to revisit and combined it with his own entirely unrelated one? Yeah that wouldn't seem like a great strategy.
  12. I liked season 1 of Stranger Things but even that spun its wheels a lot. No reason it couldn't have been like 5 episodes instead of 8. Don't think I'll even bother with season 2 with these reactions, especially since I still got Mindhunter plus a ton of movies from earlier in the year on deck.
  13. Season 3 is on the same level. In season 4 Dan Harmon wasn't there and it became truly painful garbage with exactly two good episodes (8 and 11). In Season 5 Harmon is back and it becomes good again
  14. Christmas movies sink like stones immediately after Christmas so might as well use as much of that Nov-Dec window as you can.
  15. I saw Jigsaw today and it might have the most blatantly cheating and desperately contrived script of the entire series which is quite an achievement at this point. It is not a particularly good picture.
  16. (Four months from now) HELLO MISTER BATTERY YOU COULD HAVE WON IT I GAVE YOU ALL THE CLUES
  17. Actually it needs to be the most Winona'd or Apocalypse'd. "Liked" might send the wrong message
  18. Biggest advice both me and Matrix (and we were #1 and #3 for the summer) can keep beating y'all over the head with: always take a good look at the theater counts before submitting your final answers, and look at how the PTA of similar movies behaved in the same weekends in years past.
  19. I'm watching Saw 6 and 7 and chewing on some homemade dry apples. Mmmhmm.
