As far as box office goes I can see this being Sony Classics' biggest film since Blue Jasmine. Only needs 19m to beat Still Alice and being one of the most hyped and acclaimed awards season players I'm pretty sure it'll get there. If Chalamet speaks more than a couple of lines in French/Italian that might increase his chances of a nomination. Academy loves bilingual performances.

Needs 3x from this weekend to get to $169,375,500. I think with summer weekdays it's doable but it's gonna be on the nose. Too bad $169,380,000 seems to be out of reach now. -

Cars can hit 150 even with just a normal dollar theater expansion. And Illumination movies have never expanded on Labor Day weekend, they're usually in wide release still by that point and DM3 won't be an exception. -

People keep talking about John Wick's "legs" and it didn't even hit a 3x or anything. -

Blue is the Warmest Color really could have used some beating up of men. Especially since they had two hot women for 180 minutes there. Talk about a missed opportunity. -

Dunkirk is hardly that bleak. -
Stuhlbarg feels overdue for recognition. Him and Hammer broke out around the same time but he's older and has been fucking everywhere in character roles recently. I think he might even have a better chance of winning than Dafoe considering his movie will have a much bigger presence overall. I'd be happy for either of them, anyway.

Too bad Apes opening to half of SMH won't give it any chance to recover in a similar way. PTA is dropping way too fast. By this logic neither Bad Moms nor Girls Trip would have existed in the first place since both are modestly-budgeted comedies that aren't sequels. We get more than enough of them every year. -

Dunkirk is heading for 185-205 I'd say. -
I'd be rooting for someone from the second group on principle. McDormand or Hawkins would be great. Okay Winslet too if it's actually a great role this time.

I still don't get what is it that you want God to forbid here. If there's a disproportionate amount of female same-sex scenes in movies (which is true, although I'd point out that they're still almost non-existent in major Hollywood films) shouldn't we root for more dudes to get in on the action to make it even? -
Everything will depend on first reactions. It doesn't even have a release date right now as far as I see. Might become a late bloomer for this year, might get hauled off to 2018.

This is the first I've heard of Ella and John. Definitely rooting for Sutherland to get that nomination finally.

Every single damn movie should wait for Tilda Swinton until she's available to do it. -

My first exposure to Swinton was either Narnia or The Beach where she was putting the moves on Di Caprio. Either way I knew immediately the woman was special. -

BTW the Tom Hardy sighting in Marie Antoinette definitely delivered even though he's in it for two minutes at best. I like that he was still given a place in the opening credits even then. -

It's always fun to remember that the first role I ever saw McAvoy in was Mr. Tumnus and juxtapose his every Filth/Split/Atomic Blonde kind of crazy-eyed performance against that.
