  1. Sure because wanting (not trying) to kill someone in a state of irrational hatred brought on by trauma, realizing how fucked up that is, and then coming forward with it on your own while expressing heavy remorse is... the same as actually sexually assaulting a child. You don't even yourself know what point you're making. Your actual point is that all these cases are different and the people are treated differently as a result. There's a reason Spacey is effectively blacklisted while Gunn is writing and directing a Suicide Squad sequel. But your main takeaway from all this is how "vulnerable" Hollywood stars are because they no longer get to stay on the very top of the world at all times when something controversial becomes known about them.
  2. It seems to me that Neeson himself admits this. But you don't have to defend it to try and understand it - that trauma fucks you up. Including, yes, by provoking racist thoughts and impulses. Which is not to say that he wasn't responsible for what he decided to do.
  3. If something as passionately liked as Spider-Verse dropped 53% against $115m worth of openers this will be lucky to have a sub-60% hold against a movie that could open to almost twice that. Sony has to count on this having a serious recovery from Christmas onwards if they're gonna keep it in this spot.
  4. On the other hand I loved him in Okja idk. Depends on what's the purpose of the broadness.
  5. I keep wondering if I should watch Velvet Buzzsaw if only because I'm drawn to anything idiosyncratic but I didn't even like Nightcrawler or Jake's performance in it (too obvious a caricature) so the chances of me turning on this one are probably high.
  6. The tone of the article is that of responsible journalism. A reporter's job is to report, not to judge. I'm actually very impressed she contacted two different psychologists, withheld Neeson's name, etc, with such a massive bombshell on her hands. Would have been the easiest thing in this day and age to just throw it out there with no context and no consideration.
  7. From memory, the O.J.: Made in America doc (which I highly recommend as it's about much more than just the trial) makes a case for the long history of police brutality and the Rodney King case in particular putting the prosecutors in a particularly bad spot. I don't know about cheering but the impression I got was that the jury just wasn't going to be sympathetic to them at that moment in time. It was racism creating a vicious circle, with bigger historical/societal forces at play than specific people and events.
  8. Another strong True Detective hour. Getting ever more anxious about Pizzaman sticking the landing now cause there are a lot of balls in the air. Ali is making a case for getting an Emmy in every episode and now Dorff has undoubtedly joined him there too.
  9. The Harem of Dead Wives sequence with Piper Perabo, Rebecca Hall, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Marion Cotillard and whoever it was in Memento sure is gonna be something
  10. Holdovers actually tend to get inflated grosses post-Superbowl even with many new openers. 11. I guess Disney has a masochistic streak, with Gnomeo, CR and Hercules they now have a whole 99m DOM club they get to own.
  12. WB updated numbers on nearly all its 2018 movies sometime in December. Ocean's 8 went from 139.4 to 140.2, RPO from 137.0 to 137.7, The Meg from 143.0 to 145.4 which is just ridiculous. That's some sideeye-worthy nonsense. Show us the weekly numbers come the fuck on.
  13. Can't abide the Coens cold shoulder in director and screenplay. The fucking Academy knows better than us c'mon.
