  1. This probably wouldn't have grossed over 1m even with a typical platform release. Too weird and dorky and love-it-or-hate-it. I guarantee it'll be a major cult item though.
  2. Saw this back in December and kinda loved it. A comic noir blend of Hitchcock, Lynch and Inherent Vice that keeps taking the piss out of its jackoff of a lead. Totally full of itself but in a sincere and endearing way, plus it's such an entertaining ride I wasn't bored for a minute. Garfield's best performance to date.
  3. Bill Heck isn't getting nearly enough love in supporting actor. Most revelatory performance of the year for me easily. Dude is the Glen Powell in Everybody Wants Some!! of 2018.
  4. which is why it got nominated last year. we kinda had enough time to notice its run.
  5. Gotti gotta be worthy of a best soundtrack nod right?
  6. I figured it was 11:59 pm on the 31st? Besides I'm like ~12 hours ahead of most of the forum (certainly America) so my evening when I send the ballot is gonna be your early morning.
  7. Luckily I get to see The Favourite on the 31st, so I'll send the ballot afterwards. Although it'll be pretty hard for it to even break in e.g. my current Actress line-up but we'll see.
  8. Watch him in A Most Violent Year for the strength and Inside Llewyn Davis for the weariness.
  9. Whenever I want to explore musicians' work on a deeper level my first thought is to go and watch other people's impressions of them
  10. So this is the first piece of footage I've seen from this movie and jeeeeeeezus fuck. Not just editing but also Adam Sandler as Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury
  11. It's really good so far. Much closer to the level of season 1 than 2 and with enough of its own concerns that it doesn't feel like a retread. Confident storytelling, Ali, Dorff, Ejogo, McNairy all great.
  12. Latest True Detective my favorite hour of the season yet. Bless Pizzaman and Ali who's giving his actual Oscar-worthy performance here.
  13. It's only because of all the huge names attached that I think a possibly 3-hour long comedy/drama about late '60s Hollywood has even the tiniest chance of opening to 50m. It has to have some kinda crazy hook we're not aware of yet to go beyond that imo. At this point I think a Basterds/Shutter Island run would already be a big win.
  14. I thought after They Shall Not Grow Old that I would've really preferred to just read the soldiers' accounts and look at the unaltered footage or pictures separately. The sound effects, colorization etc. is an interesting idea but in execution it only kept reminding me of how compromised it is rather than immersing me into it.
  15. Beauty got 16+, BR 18+. Movies with LGBT subject matter tend to pass through without controversy as long as they aren't HARMING OUR CHILDREN OHMYGOD. Then again knowing there will probably be controversy almost certainly discourages distributors from putting some movies out, i.e. Love Simon and Call Me by Your Name were sorta just quietly never released. On the other hand Moonlight and Imitation Game had no problems. The Danish Girl neither. Movies about lesbians never have problems, that double standard where two ladies = hot but two guys = ewww is extremely present here. Country lives in fear of closeness of dicks.
