  1. I’ve spoken to many members in my family that would identify as GA members and a few causal MCU fans who would go to movies 4-5 times a year. Even though MCU movies are designed to be easily accesible, the main roadblock was feeling like they had to watch the shows because they had base awareness that Nick Fury and Kamala had shows, as well as lack of interest. A key difference between the Mantis and Quill thing is that not only can it be implied in GoTGv2 but also the holiday special didn’t feel mandatory as that was around 45 minutes versus around 3 shows. Even though again, they likely aren’t mandatory viewing.
  2. https://www.indiewire.com/news/general-news/taika-waititi-no-interest-thor-wanted-to-be-an-auteur-1234929596/ This actually perfectly explains Love and Thunder. Dude was there to deliver on Ragnarok, get the fuck out after the check and make sure he wasn’t coming back.
  3. Maybe the 2nd then? It’s unorthodox but not a holiday. The 8th could be an option too.
  4. @cayommagazine Broadway musicians Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy (Heathers: The Musical, Legally Blonde: The Musical, Reefer Madness) have been signed on to write original songs for Endless Animation’s upcoming family sci-fi musical, the long in-development The Valkyries vs The Galaxy. Academy Award winner Ian Jones-Quartery (Matilda and the Night Children, OK K.O.: Let’s Be Heroes, Steven Universe) has been tapped on to write and direct the project, with Jennifer Kluska (Hotel Translyvania: Transformania, DC Super Hero Girls) as co-director. The movie is slated for February 13th, Y10.
  5. Viva Las Vengeance: The Cinematic Experience Studio: Infinite Studios Release Date: 2/6/Y10 Genre: Concert Director: Bruce Hendricks Rating: PG-13 Budget: $12M Theater Count: 2,450 Format: 2D and 3D Runtime: 140 minutes Plot: Panic! at the Disco reunites to do a concert film of their whole Viva Las Vengeance album as well as singing their greatest hits like High Hopes, Victorious and I Write Sins and Not Tragedies. The band also recounting bits on how they became a band together and how music has strengthened those familial bonds.
  6. @4815162342 @cookie @Rorschach @Hiccup23 @tyson67roberts @El Squibbonator @Reddroast @Ethan Hunt @MCKillswitch123 @Xillix @SLAM! For the first half of the calendar January 16th needs a film (Money Heist opens that date too) February 6th and 13th needs a film (for the 13th, it’s a holiday weekend and you’d be opening against Room 131) March 6th and 20th need films April 3rd needs a film (Cruisin World opens there) April 17th and 24th needs films As does May 8,15, and 22 (22nd is Memorial Day weekend and DC’s Seige of Savage opens there) June 5th and 19th need movies assuming Penpal makes it Second half July 3rd (opening against Second Dimension 2), 10th and 17th need films August 7th, 21st and 28th need films September 25th needs a film October 9th, 23rd and 30th need films November 13th, 20th need films December 18th need a film (but GLC3 should be done on Monday) and December 25th needs two films In total, we need 29 more films. My idea in case we don’t get enough films tomorrow, that we do a rudimentary final call for films the first half of the year (January to June) for next week Monday, December 4th. Whatever movies gets done by then is our slate for the first half of the year and we do the process of reviews, predictions and actuals. Hopefully by that time, we end our deadline for the second half of the year (July through December) on January 1st. By then, we will be about ready to go into the actuals phase, and then continue as usual. Hopefully we get it this year ready for figures and Oscars by the end of January.
  7. GLC3, Romance Road 2 and Valkyries should be posted by Monday
  8. Honestly can’t believe y’all are falling for that bait, when it’s obvious the actress is going to be one of the multiple heralds. It’s like when MTTSH lied about a female Ben Grimm.
  9. I can see either or tbh. People love dinosaurs and that itself is a great sell. Even with the mixed WOM and reviews, think it could’ve been a big breakout this summer due to not much being there apart from Guardians, Across and Barbenheimer.
  10. Barbie is, for a blockbuster at least, a deep dive on feminism, patriarchal constructs and toxic masculinity. Disney never really dives down on feminism ideas or concept apart for some broad, rudimentary surface-level things. The Frozen movies tackle feminism ideals more than even Marvel’s attempts with female heroes. TLM did great domestically and probably would’ve done less domestic with a white Ariel. Its problems were moreso overseas in which racism is a very real factor that black led films deal with regularly. As for a trans character, when was the last time Disney had a trans lead or side character in one of their films. Apart from Strange World, Disney has never had an LGBTQ character apart from background stuff in their family films which is something both WDAS, Pixar and Blue Sky employees have said numerous times. South Park did a satirical bit on how Kathleen Kennedy was turning everything gay but when have we ever had a gay lead in the Disney live action branch including Star Wars and Marvel?
  11. And I do think the Plus ate into this because of the short windows and far greater association due to branding (which not even Paramount+ has despite a shorter window and Nickelodeon (which never was a big theatrical factor)) as ninety days isn’t that hard to wait out and far cheaper than going to theaters. Mediocre product can’t travel as much because of this. It also gives conservative audiences an out. They can boast all they want about not supporting the “woke mouse” but have the streamer in secret for their kids to watch it without judgement.
  12. In fairness I’m not sure it’s 100% Middle America that can save those films (that said it’s clear there’s a problem based on the ticket sales of TLM, Elemental and Wish relying on MTC1 the most) but even then I don’t think Elemental or Wish could’ve been saved from a last ditch movement in MTC2. The latter had mixed WOM for being pretty generic and Elemental had not only to fight mixed Cannes reviews but bad marketing and a swarm of competition OW. Apart from Elemental and Mermaid, the rest of Disney’s family lineups has been mediocre to garbage (Wish, Lightyear and Strange World are just mediocre to garbage to begin with and no amount of help could’ve saved them). I’m quite curious to see how Turning Red, Luca and Soul could’ve play with theatrical releases or Encanto in a more favorable habitat. As for Guardians and Marvels, think the mixed reception of Marvel is to be blamed moreso than culture wars. I do think an appealing enough project can circumvent this, like a big enough sequel to a project with decent quality. Inside Out 2 is a big test for this as their is demand.
  13. On the bright side, THG looks strong but what a horrid November. THG seems like the only 100m grossing hit next month. Thankfully, December looks much healthier as I think the trio of Aquaman, Wonka and Migration should get to 100m as should The Color Purple. Disney has had such a shitty year, maybe even their worst ever at the box office. Though I don’t believe culture wars are the cause mainly due to the fact that boycotts don’t work and the fact that Barbie which is fundamentally more “woke” than anything Disney would ever try, I do believe mediocre product for the older audiences (apart from TLM, Elemental and Guardians, WOM for movies this year from the Mouse House have been mediocre (Wish) to shitty (The Marvels, Haunted Mansion, Indy, Quantumania, etc) and streaming is hurting it the most particularly in the family genre because unless something is known to be “good” it’ll die. I do think the marketing guy is another primary suspect because dude can’t sell an original or something not guaranteed to be a hit to save his life. The mega sequels both animated and live action will be fine but I do think Disney has lost its hold as the big powerhouse this year. On the bright side, at least theaters likely won’t have to deal with their demands and can get more of a fair share now after how bad this year has been.
  14. I concur. Working on a batch of fillers and dropping GLC3 this weekend to be posted and we do need to have a serious talk about on how the game can move forward as I do not think another pushback is fair.
  15. The Deadpool movies have always been “soft R”. They have the same appeal as Family Guy.
  16. Whenever I got the Napoleon trailer in theater, it had a good response. I also seen more advertising for it than Flower Moon and on top of that, heard more people my age talk about Napoleon than Moon. Anyways, even though tentpoles have been very hit or miss this year and signs of an unhealthy box office are there, the return of adult drama slowly creeping in means there’s hope for a more sustainable theatrical future. Now if we could just get more comedies to do well, I think we could get more healthier variety for theaters and studios because if more mid and small budgeted films do well, a tentpole dying doesn’t fuck over a month.
  17. Wasn’t able to get a full track today due to celebrating my mom’s birthday but from the buildup I saw at my theaters. Felt confident in 3M for Napoleon.
  18. Wish had now moved an additional 71 tickets in the past two hours. Pretty weak matinee showing but that’s to be expected. The evening shows look much healthier. From eyeballing, Menominee looks half full at 6:30 pm PLF which is great, and the PLF for North Shore at 7 is 15% full. 6:00 normal is about half full. All of which 1.5 to 2 hours to go.
