Regal has a deal - see it in 3D on the 20th and get some pins. I don't know why it's not opening day...I really hope that RT score doesn't drop below 90%, 87% if it has to.
We still don't have showtimes :/ but we didn't have any for Florence or Pete's Dragon until Thursday before so.
We really don't need every theater in town to show Ben Hur like 7 times.
There are certainly American Japanese people (Or, to broaden the net, East Asian people) who work in the voice industry in America. It is an American production, and I absolutely wouldn't expect Laika to go to Japan and pick people from a similar region, that would be a nightmare and cost-prohibitive.
I don't blame them 100% for using popular names because Laika movies don't do so hot stateside, and I'm not 100% against having a white person in the cast. I just wish they tried a little harder to have more than one, two? It's not super common to see an East Asian story get wide release in mainstream America and it could have been a real opportunity for someone.
I hear a few people wish they used more Asian voice actors, but everyone kind of lets it pass. Almost 100% certain that they dub it for China with big Chinese actors anyway, and they do way better over there than here in NA. I absolutely understand their concerns, because diversity behind the camera is important too. It won't stop me from enjoying the movie (unless the voice actors do a poor job, but I doubt it), but i'll always wish that they went that extra mile.
Well I guess when initials predictions for your 100$ million dollar blockbusters' opening were between 10 and 15 million, there's nowhere to go but up.
& that would be Laika's highest opening ever - I hope it can make it!...or at least 18$ mil.
I actually liked the first 45 minutes or so - the snarky, weird tone of the adult jokes cracked me up. It's when actual gameplay elements got introduced that I got bored. Real pity, this was the one trailer I rewatched because it was bright, vibrant, and almost seemed like a true family film. C
If the advertising is as thorough and persistent as it was for SLOP, I will actually be hyped instead of deeply annoyed. The singing so far sounds wonderful - don't really care if it's the actual actors or not.
I'm semi excited. It does look like they're being flexible and not making it a hard copy of (whatever #5 is). I still buy each book the day it comes out, but I can't say i'd rush out to see this.
I wonder if the [potential] success of Middle School; The Worst Days of My Life (which I also read and it's not nearly as good) might push them to move faster.
Would have been a nice break between a lot of excitement, especially if Angry Birds wasn't already there, but the counterprogramming to SP this weekend will probably surprise us.
Weirdly, I don't think i've seen any recent merchandise for it. Even the Disney Store just has the old movie.
I wouldn't be against buying a cuddly dragon.
Fast 8, Wolverine 3, La La Land, Passengers, Sully, Arrival can suck. I am rooting hardcore for Skull Island, Sing, and GOTG 2
Wonder Woman, Captain Underpants, Pitch Perfect 3, Thor: Ragnarok, Ready Player One, Star Wars 8, Hidden Figures, The Lego Batman Movie, Power Rangers (2017)
