Just having Suicide Squad beat Man of Steel is rather epic to be honest.

$320m domestic would be pretty fantastic for SS. I agree, 700m is a lock.

Star Trek Beyond and Ghostbusters box office: What Went Wrong

The last thing I heard about NuTrek IV was how the involved people were talking about that they hoped they'd get a solid box office reception from Beyond so they could make it. -
Star Trek Beyond and Ghostbusters box office: What Went Wrong
Kathemy replied to grim22's topic in Box Office Discussion
Maybe there is confusion to how we use the terms. For me a flop is a movie losing serious money at the box office. A "bomb" is something so catastrophical one can't see any potential of regaining the investment over a decade. Ghostbusters and Star Trek are both flops by that definition. The box office of Ghostbusters apparently made the studio cancel plans of a live action sequel. I have yet to hear one word of NuTrek IV after the initial drop hit. -
I agree that Beyond was the better movie - in fact, it's the only movie out of the three reboots that I think beats some of the more "reasonable" original Trek movies, such as Insurrection and Generations. I think Lin could make a great fourth movie if he was in on it from the start; there's nothing wrong with his direction technique, he just needs to let the story breathe. It's just a bloody shame that the abysmal performance of Beyond might mean we won't get one. I haven't heard a single word about NuTrek 4 since Beyond opened. Stone dead radio silence.

Star Trek Beyond and Ghostbusters box office: What Went Wrong
Kathemy replied to grim22's topic in Box Office Discussion
Again you would not be arguing that this was not a flop if it had a male cast and the producers didn't try to promote it as some sort of Feminist vanguard movie at war with the terrible internet trolls and the "patriarchy." If that was not so it would be universally recognized as a flop and nobody would bother defending it. You know it, I know it, everybody knows it. I'm sorry and I am honestly not trying to troll here, I'm just trying to be realistic. It scored like Star Trek Beyond and nobody is trying to argue that was not a failure. -

No offense but he doesn't need to say anything, it's true whatever he says. -
My prediction for Japan final box office based on wishful thinking and some poor math. $17,946,419

Random musing. I posted this elsewhere and I want you to tell me if I'm retarded, and if you can even use numbers in this fashion. Suicide Squad hasn't opened in Japan. It is matching Batman v Superman's gross (or perhaps even outscoring it, I can't tell) in South Korea and Taiwan so I find it highly unlikely the film will bomb in Tokyo. Now: by last weekend its score was DOM $262,428,736, FOR $313,000,000 FOR/DOM = ~1.193 Most people here seem to predict a final DOM of 300-315. Lowball predicted DOM: 300 which would give FOR 358 Highball: 315 which would give FOR 376 (This is the crucible. I'm estimating FOR will match DOM's decline.) Estimated Japan gross (this must be added, it's an unopened market): $15,000,000 Final prediction range: $673m - $706m Am I crazy?

All I really want for Suicide Squad is to break 300 domestic, and then maybe break 304 for petty reasons.

I disagree. To me Watchmen is the only Snyder film really worth watching because he adapted the source material so closely and the only thing he really changed was the "faux alien invasion" subplot, which really just made for a more streamlined movie. Snyder is only good when painting by numbers. Give him any artistic leeway and he'll screw it up. Watchmen the movie was simplified compared to the source material but that is to be expected, it's a movie and not a graphic novel. I'm a huge fan of the comic - it's the best one I've ever read - but if I am to judge Watchmen as a comic book movie in its own regard, it's a five. No other comic book movie even comes close.
