  1. Spiderverse-Elemental switching places every other day the only interesting thing that's happening atm. I also wonder how well No Hard Feelings is gonna hold in the coming weeks.
  2. I think spiderverse discourse before tracking was similar to Dune part2 discourse right now. Some believed it would explode because of the first movie great reception and post-theatrical popularity, while others thought the hype is mostly an internet bubble thing and it ll have a muchmore modest jump in boxoffice. In the end it exploded and is gonna double the first movie.
  3. Not buying that. Part1 first two trailers on youtube have atm 41m and 34m views. I was watching them many times in late 2021 when I had already seen the movie and they both were 5-10mil lower than that. Trailers for big movies like this get a big boost just before-during and after release because they get embedded to thousands of articles worldwide that talk about the movie.
  4. Didn't have a problem with blink 'n miss cameos like Glover or that lady from Venom who I didn't even recognize. They 'll be straight up stupid to do anything more than that for Beyond like any real set-up/crossover. I'm sure there gonna be other spider-verse projects after the trilogy wraps, they can do their MCU inroads there. They don't have to ruin a thing people like for what it is before it's complete.
  5. It was pretty good even if most of the big laughs (except THAT scene) were actually in the trailer. The rest of it was also decent and more romantic than raunchy. Only thing I didn't love was how much they were trying to get ahead of the dreaded discourse towards the end Jlaw was absolutely great though and looked like she was having a blast. I'm enjoying her career post-pandemic, she seems to be doing movies she really wants. Just a few years ago she looked bored out of her mind in those last few X-Men sequels.
  6. Now that it's over, was there a particular reason this whole casting process was so public? Don't really remember the lead-up to either Holland or Pattinson being cast but I think there wasn't so much inside info and so heavily reported. Felt like Gunn was a casting round away from doing a LeBron The Decision tv special to anounce who's gonna be Superman.
  7. There was huge hype about its quality and the way it was shot. Boxoffice was more of a questionmark since it was a belated sequel to a movie that while huge in its time, wasn't exactly omnipresent in the culture.
  8. Surprised by how light it looks. Trailer is most likely edited for maximum commercial appeal, but even with that in my mind it still looks like his most mainstream friendly movie yet. idk if that or Zendaya will move the needle but I'm very excited
  9. Couldn't agree more, I love most of these old timey adventures. I just don't think anyone will even try anymore unless it's a Pirates sequel or another Mummy reboot. Even Jungle Cruise only happened because of Rock's huge success with Jumanji.
  10. The cinemascore is somehow more shocking than how far the OW range has fallen. The movie wasn't really good but it wasn't anywhere as bad a Black Adam or as boring as Shazam. This being at the end of a string of flops that no one even liked that much certainly played it's part to how much it's being rejected right now.
  11. Jungle Book is a big outlier as far as initial reception though. It's the only one of those remakes that got geniune raves by critics and huge "gotta see it on a big screen" positive buzz. It's boxoffice was more driven by overwhelming reception than nostalgia for the IP or big movie stars. And on the other end on the spectrum is Alice that also had very little to do with nostalgia for the animated Alice movie. It was all Burton-Depp at the peak of their popularity plus 3D mania.
  12. It wasn't terrible. The first hour with the 2 Barrys was actually pretty good, but as it went along it lost me. The central Flash stuff was the only thing that worked, Ezra Miller was actually funny (BTTF joke aside). The multiverse stuff ranged from whatever (Keaton) to godawful (the CGI cameos). And they 're all so unimportant to the movie I don't understand why they bothered to fill this up with so many half-hearted cameos. Why are Batflek and Gadot even in the movie? This could have been actually good if they took the WW and Aquaman approach, ignore the synderverse and the DC legacy cameos and just do the same premise as a solo movie.
  13. The bootlicking that we are about to witness from the trades as the strike drags on will be a sad spectacle. The thinkpieces about "how the writers are costing other peoples jobs with their stubborn strike" are not that far away either.
  14. Wonder Woman released in the same weekend with the same calendar configuration as spider-verse.
  15. Sure maybe it means Gwen is trans or maybe it is just a flourish that subtly underlines her values. My point is at the moment it is just a flourish, and you need some leaps of thought to see it as a clue for Gwen trans identity based on one small detail at the edge of a frame. And even if nothing comes of it in the text of the third movie, some people might still believe that there are subtle hints by the creators that Gwen is trans, and that's also valid. Discussing subtext of movies we like is why we are on the internet talking about them. It's just that with open-ended stories like this hanging on to the "clues" to me feels less like discussing subtext and more like trying to predict what happens in the next movie. Which is really not my thing. I don't wanna be the guy that clocked back in 2018 the spider that bit Miles was from another dimension because it's glitching. I'm the guy that gets surprised in the new movie, then goes back and says "holy shit, they were hinting since then".
  16. There's nothing wrong with fans doing far fetched readings of a movie for shits and giggles. But you also gotta know most movies arent mysteries littered with "clues" and waiting to be solved.
  17. So no 400m? It opened to almost exactly the same numbers as GOTG3, it 'll be interesting to see how much higher it 'll get, if at all.
