  1. It will be a lot of case by case, but many critics become less "critics" for stuff that are just mindless dumb fun, Mamma mia just got somewhat good reviews, Mission Impossible Fallout got a near 100% and I am not sure how more mindless dumb fun it could get, Deadpool was certified fresh, etc....
  2. That is really untrue, specially for sharks. There is shark's that kill birds just for fun without eating them, my cats were killing other animals without any form of fear or hunger, they are biologically programmed to love it. https://www.ranker.com/list/animals-that-kill-for-no-reason/laura-allan Lot of animals kill for the control of territory or female, lions will kill baby of other predators to reduce competition, lions will kill the babies of what they suspect to be kids of an other male, etc....
  3. Look at the movies that opened above power rangers in 2017: There is not that many among the 165 movie of that year with a wide release (it opened in the top 15% of the wide release, far from the bottom) And a lot of them had more views while none had a low amount of views: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Disney) 220.01 92.221 Beauty and the Beast (Disney) 174.751 80.077 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (Disney) 146.51 57.324 IT (Warner / New Line) 123.403 50.65 Thor: Ragnarok (Disney) 122.745 96.56 Spider-Man: Homecoming (Sony / Columbia) 117.028 93.87 Wonder Woman (Warner Bros.) 103.251 84.205 The Fate of the Furious (Universal) 98.787 30.87 Justice League (Warner Bros.) 93.842 107.332 Logan (Fox) 88.412 44.196 Despicable Me 3 (Universal) 72.434 69.414 Pirates of the Caribbean: 62.983 34.99 Kong: Skull Island (Warner Bros.) 61.025 35.309 War for the Planet of the Apes (Fox) 56.263 34.246 Cars 3 (Disney) 53.689 75.283 The LEGO Batman Movie (Warner Bros.) 53.003 31.231 Coco (Disney) # 50.803 16.259 Dunkirk (Warner Bros.) 50.513 42.927 The Boss Baby (Fox / DWorks Anim.) 50.199 52.292 Fifty Shades Darker (Universal) 46.607 52.612 Transformers: The Last Knight (Paramount) # 44.68 40.386 Power Rangers (Lionsgate) 40.3 59.296 The movies that openned higher to power rangers had an average 58.2m views on the boxofficereport.com way of counting them before release The movies that openned lower than power rangers had in average 9.5m views. And other important point, no movie that openned lower than Power rangers had more views either. My excel give me a correlation factor of .84 for 2017 using that very limited, 0 adjustment for genre/target audience, mpaa rating, etc... metric, not something near to 0. X-Men Apoc is one of Fox biggest opening of all time (specially considering the bad exchange rate at the time of that release, is intl OW was bigger than Days of Future Past using the same exchange rate for both), how is that supposed to show a lack of correlation ? https://deadline.com/2016/05/x-men-apocalypse-captain-america-angry-birds-weekend-results-international-box-office-1201760967/ 1 in 76 markets, and is the biggest Fox debut weekend ever in six... top X-Men opening ever in 33 markets.
  4. Are you trolling as usual or have just no idea what a correlation factor is ? (or both ?)
  5. Berg didn't do many bad movies, but that one seam to have been a bit of a troubled production.
  6. Do very small indie distributor ever get those ? Pure FLix/Quality Flix is has small has it get, Samson dropped theater second weekend, the last God's not dead/A question of faith/Same kind of different as me all did also.
  7. Crazy rich Asians release 5 days after The meg./blackksmans/slender man (slender man look bleak)
  8. You think the correlation coefficient between trailer views and OW box office is 0 ?
  9. With republican in powers everywhere, he would have a difficulty with those movies I would imagine. If Clinton would have been in power too....
  10. Never heard anyone talk about it in real life, you do not need much people watching on A&E do keep a show going on, less than 1% of the population would do.
  11. It is hard to critique a movie I liked a lot, but Claire from the first movie does not have much in common with Claire of the second movie, and the Pratt character was always pretty much a trope. Never felt like a room of writers making an human study of what those people would do, but molded them into a list of event they wanted to happen. I am not sure that character being just plot device is much of an issue, specially for plot heavy movies.
  12. Really ? They are not the same people from 1 and 2 and felt completely being only trope/plot device (for a plot that felt purely to connect set piece). I loved that movie so much.
  13. The level of anecdote evidence and thinking a counter example can be use as a rules to rebut that was not saying "all do" is getting spectacular.
  14. Would not be surprising if 50% or less watch it on TV that count in that viewer count. full list of the year’s most-pirated television shows below. 1. “Game of Thrones” 2. “The Walking Dead” 3. “The Flash” 4. “The Big Bang Theory” 5. “Rick and Morty” 6. “Prison Break” 7. “Sherlock” 8. “Vikings 9. “Suits” 10. “Arrow” And it is on Netflix also. http://comicbook.com/dc/2018/05/31/the-flash-season-4-netflix/
  15. Talk are of around 75m budget, but in the context of a how many billions franchise, how it maintain the franchise alive among the public is really what matter here I would imagine.
  16. Cruise was in Scientology decades before that, yes Oprah show had an impact and had one at least for 5 year's, is it still a significant one too is the question.
  17. That is almost certain (specially if they are not enough Scientology buying ton of ticket to compensate) or at least without is 2005 PR year's... But is it a significant impact, say more than 5% or just a small one.
  18. That not that interesting of a metric, it is probably less 1 million mention ? Anything can be seen has an issue by the social media reaction angle. If we would take 1,000 random movie goers in the domestic market and ask them about Tom Cruise view that would give us a much better view.
  19. I would say so (would it have been in the movie we would remember that)
  20. RDJ is 3 year younger than Cruise. Somewhat complicated storyline/characthers in many old movies is probably a strong source of resistance.
  21. The 2 that got bought by majors that use their big studio international reach and distribute in many market themselves got not so bad one for what they were, the indie distributed Beatriz at Dinner got almost no intl buyers.
  22. I imagine not necessarily if there is 25% or so going in first dollar deals like Paramount has on Transformer franchise among that group of producer/director/writer/actors and Cruise. At 650m you get over 115m in bonus and the movie is now costing 300m at break even point. Men in black 3 need about that because it was giving away 90m in bonus at the break even point, increasing the actual budget quite a lot. If they are mostly or all on a post-break participation, it does sound ridiculously high yes. I imagine that why they do not know and why the figure change so much from different opinion, trying to guessing people deals.
