  1. Probably too expensive for it's level of international appeal of a Feig/McCarthy comedy, even in case of a nice success say a 60m opening and 175m dbo, would have still have an hard time to reach that 400-450m worldwide they aimed for.
  2. Will have a better idea with the cinemascore exit poll but, first word of mouth seem to be nice: IMDB: 8.3/10 with 33% 10/10 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7784604/ratings?ref_=tt_ov_rt RT Audience 75%, liked it Average Rating: 4/5 User Ratings: 1,952 MC user reviews: 8.6 /10 POSITIVE: 23 MIXED: 3 NEGATIVE: 2
  3. Maybe being a 4:00 PM ? Would be nice if BOM would stop putting box office in virtual days instead of their actual days for every movie and retroactively.
  4. The difference between Hereditary / Hotel Artemis do show how much review matter outside the big studio release in general and outside certain review robust genre I would think.
  5. I was unsure (mostly because of how much the mechanic would have change if that was the case), but when the book burn why did that affect him and why Colette character became right away the one possessed after his death ? I could have mis-seen or missremember but I thought the light got out of his body into Colette body. They were probably more vehicule with a small influence than really possessed and fully controlled before the book got burnt I would imagine. Or there is a possibility that she actually burned him with thinner and the movie show her subjective point of view when she think magic is occuring. Specially for what you pointed out about Charlie death, not sure how well it pass scrutiny.
  6. Was not too bothered by it until the book burning scene were it became a bit too much of a contrast, almost in a not being in the same movies level, too not being contagiously affected by that level of urgency and panic. But once you realize he was being possessed, you wonder he was for how long. The mechanic of being possessed is unclear too me also. When Colette become the one possessed it seem like the rules all change up from the previous vehicle like Charlie and the husband, maybe the book was grounding him or he is gaining power as the ritual is going on. I will certainly need a rewatch, but that seem like a stretch, that said head being cut off seam to be a central element to the cult. And they communicate with Charlie non long before the accident, the woman looking at her while she cut the bird head. Isn't the body put in the attic after Charlie death ? When they comment on the smell for the first time, could be them jumping on the opportunity and taking credits for it ? That would be quite the struck of luck too but at the same time they cannot really plan that she will be at a party and send a cake with nuts. There is so much in this and I am so bad at understanding movies, will not surprise me if I enjoy it more on rewatch.
  7. So well used in Infinity Wars felt like the MVP to me yes.., there Micheal B Jordan in Black Panther I guess and most of the A quiet place cast.
  8. For that type of movie without a China release and not featuring a prime Brad Pitt, I could see this one play more domestic heavy (at least relative for the era, maybe even in absolute)
  9. Probably what a ridiculous distribution, 24% 10/10 make no sense, so does the 24% 1/10.............. Bit surprising, that look so much to be the kind of movie everyone agree between a 4 to 7.5 on 10 type of movie. Look really artificial score at the moment.
  10. I think so, could be an other success story for them. But depending what you mean, I think you will be surprised how straight pure to all the trope horror this is.
  11. Quite true I think, this one did shoot quite a bit in the UK it seem, maybe we will have a better idea than the previous one.
  12. That would be a strange business decision imo, sequel of a 1.6b franchise movie, is it a good time to try to skeeze a bit more money ? Go for the giant spectacle...
  13. The review say: both so dissapointed, so I would imagine that 2 ticket, pop corn + soda + babysitter ?
  14. Lego Batman felt like something you had to know the lore to get the jokes and limited is potential (probably why it worked not so well oversea in markets that didn't grew up with batman like the US). This feel like a near 0 resistance movie, the voice over making it clear it will take you by the hand and explain you the what ? There is more than one superman spiderman now ? That most people will feel. It could break up or it could loose to distinguish itself enough from the direct to video stuff.
  15. According to this, it did pass Star Wars: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_highest-grossing_media_franchises The Lion Kings on that list is quite high fo rthe number of movies.
  16. That was for Peter Packer I think: https://wikileaks.org/sony/docs/07/junderwood/1 Corp Dev/Spiderman/Executive Summary of All Deal Points/Executive Summary (Creative).pdf Those were the rules for the non Peter Paker spider man: Mandatory Spider-Man Character Traits. Spider-Man (whether Peter Parker or an alternative Spider-Man character) must always strictly conform to the following “Mandatory Character Traits”:  Male  Does not torture*  Does not kill unless in defense of self or others*  Does not use foul language beyond PG-13  Does not smoke tobacco*  Does not sell/distribute illegal drugs*  Does not abuse alcohol*  Does not have sex before the age of 16, does not have sex with anyone below the age of 16  Not a homosexual (unless Marvel has portrayed that alter ego as a homosexual) Peter Paker added heterosexual to not an homosexual:  His full name is Peter Benjamin Parker.  He is Caucasian and heterosexual.  His parents become absent from his life during his childhood.  From the time his parents become absent he is raised by Aunt May and Uncle Ben in New York City  He gains his powers while attending either middle school or college.  He gains his powers from being bitten by a spider  He designs his first red and blue costume.  The black costume is a symbiote and is not designed by him  He is raised in a middle class household in Queens, New York  He attends or attended high school in Queens,
  17. Animation and the people involved are costly so it was probably not an issue, but at least in the old before HomeComing happened Marvel deal, Sony had to spend a minimum on a SpiderMan movie. PICTURE REQUIREMENTS. Each Picture must have an all-in budget of not less than $75M, qualify for a PG-13 rating and have an initial domestic theatrical release of no less than 2000 screens. That point was pointed out when they started looking if they have the rights to do an animated Spider Man movie vis a vis Marvel contract. Couple of Sony pic animation net budget for a reference Cloudy 1 net budget was 116.84m Cloudy 2 net budget was 80m Smurfs 2: 114m Smurf: 124m Hotel Trans: 104m Pirates! band of misfit: 59m Arthur Christmas: 102.5m Surf up: 97m Open Season: 99m Probably in that 105 to 125m net range I would imagine, seem to be their zone.
  18. Considering Lord&Miller track record that is prudent: Worldwide (Unadjusted) Rank Title (click to view) Studio Worldwide Domestic / % Overseas / % Year 1 The LEGO Movie WB $469.2 $257.8 54.9% $211.4 45.1% 2014 2 22 Jump Street Sony $331.3 $191.7 57.9% $139.6 42.1% 2014 3 Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs Sony $243.0 $124.9 51.4% $118.1 48.6% 2009 4 21 Jump Street Sony $201.6 $138.4 68.7% $63.1 31.3% 2012 And Lego Batman: Total Lifetime Grosses Domestic: $175,750,384 56.3% + Foreign: $136,200,000 43.7% = Worldwide: $311,950,384 But SpiderMan is quite something oversea
  19. I feel that could be common, we could see a ugly intl weekend drop for Solo (after a rather good second weekend hold)
  20. Better reviews to reach out of it's natural audience and break out I would agree, but also good enough to not loose is best quadrant/ target audience (so also agree about the still doing pretty well). Seem like a kind of reception that will not bring anyone that had no interest and not turn away any interested.
  21. Inspired by the recent Forbes work of finding Solo, Rogue One, Awaken, Last Jedi, company filling, using those company registered adress I went and did a quick look to try to find others registered company for a movie. Here Thor 2, under the rather obvious codename ASGARD PRODUCTIONS II: https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/07596270 It seem to look like this: Spending 30.178 7 april 2011 to 31 aug 2012 69.181 31 aug 2012 to 31 jan 2013 46.319 to 31 october 2013 Movie release here 19.015 to 31 july 2014 3.249 to 31 july 2015 Tax credit received: 4.595 april 2011 to 31 aug 2012 10.809 31 aug 2012 to 31 jan 2013 6.969 to 31 october 2013 Movie release here 3.213 to 31 july 2014 0.507 to 31 july 2015 -------------------- I am not 100% sure how to read this numbers, is 100% of the expense are in those or just those eligible for the tax credits ? What are the expense after the movie release, contractant / SFX people getting paid later, people bonus, home ent material being made that have the rights for credits ? I really do not know. Regardless, that would be for Thor 2 a gross production cost of 167.942m pound with 26.093m in tax credit. Conversation ratio was around 1.6 USD for every pound around that time frame. For an about 268m gross budget and a about 225m net one. If we look at the expense just before the movie release, 233m gross budget and 197m net, that would be pratically the exact same has the first Guardian of the Galaxy made around the same time.

  23. Sound really a good first step toward universal merging the 2 franchise together, maybe have Diesel with some dinosaur's fight Johnson with is own team of dinosaurs, Do they own The Voice too ? It is on NBC just saying.... probably something to do with those 3 combined.
  24. I think that the one Spider Man related stuff that interest me the most since the first Raimi one. Look nice, curious to see how it will look on the big screen.
  25. Sound on expectation and for the good enough for a movie like this, beloved franchise, genre/trope that does not need to be specially good to be pleasant should be enough to work (not help, not hurt)
