  1. Force Awaken was probably more watchable by people without a good background into the franchise (and everyone in the US even if they had seen no movie could answer 10 questions about the story) and probably more rewatched than the 3 hours have to go through the first 2 hours of talking of End Game.
  2. The blockbuster filmmaker love their movies like babies, who are you to judge, etc... glove seem off, specially about a project that they wrote, designed, took movies to prove their worth to achieve to make all that without interest in it, but in sequels they were not sure would happen, The parallel universe in which Will Smith make The Matrix instead of Wild Wide West and Django Unchained instead of After Earth, could be quite the different one.
  3. The movie is made by Genre Film, Kinberg company and he is a producer on the project: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8356942/companycredits?ref_=ttfc_ql_4 I am not sure staying attached in that context (plus being one of the most powerful person in Hollywood) is a big indication one way or an other in that context, I imagine he has no boss that could possibly be firing him.
  4. Wonder if the 3.1m viewer bump, 9% market share increase from the year before: 91st February 24, 2019 2018 Green Book 29.6 million 20.6 none[9] Dolby Theatre ABC-TV 90th March 4, 2018 2017 The Shape of Water 26.5 million 18.9 Jimmy Kimmel Dolby Theatre ABC-TV Didn't made the search for a new host less of a priority also, reviews for the show were quite good.
  5. Is point seem to be the same people can call out Nostalgia being the worst when a Star Wars/Jurassic Park rack a ton of money and get excited when Nintendo release an Nintendo classic, have fun with it when they watch Friend or when they watched Stranger Things. But I think it is rarely using nostalgia that is the issue for people, is redoing the almost same exact story.
  6. That a bit much, https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_hateful_eight/reviews/?page=3&sort=rotten Lot of reviews point out recycling of is own work, mid-century cinema, etc... If you see it less, one is a nearly irrelevant individual (by now, he was an absolute giant influence in the 90s) the other is becoming like 40% of an industry, very strongly using the force of the state to economically transform nostalgia and is access via extension of copyrights law and rapidly growing.
  7. How much appeal on the M-25 Poppins had ? How much appeal on the F+25 Pikachu had ? Those 2 are not good example of 4 quad mass appeal imo.
  8. infinity war third weekend was of 61.8 + 90m international reaching 1416m outside china. it ended up making 1688,8 million outside china or 1.79 time it's last weekend. EndGame did 165.4m last weekend, except if China factor reduce the holds/if it achieve to hold like Infnity War and add 1.8x that, going from 2.486B + 1.8 * 165.4 would be 2783.72m Exactly like Avatar. Memorial Day weekend could help pushing it over.
  9. Shazam legs really got ugly, End Game really destroyed them, it will not come close to add 1.5x it's third weekend, I even did get surprised seeing on a poster at the theater last weekend, thinking that it was a much older release.
  10. And/or the Avatar re-release more interesting if the difference between the 2 is much smaller than Titanic re-release numbers.
  11. Could take an other 10 year's again I guess (specially that start). Most previous Marvel release did not open in China/somewhere else the same weekend, did anyone have made some good comparable for what to expect multiplier of the third weekend to be added with this current release pattern ?
  12. (6) if I am not missing one: Shazam, Joker, captain marvel, End game, X-men, spider-men vs Dumbo Aladdin Lion King Which one I am missing ? Maleficent and Toy Story 4 or ...
  13. Wonder if that level of quality will be Laser Disk type of niche. Bluray never went above dvds, but if gigabit or higher Internet become the norm, we could see something close to the over 100mbits 4K bluray available on Netflix and others.
  14. Yep that a way to see it, it is more a men dream to end up with Theron than the other way around for sure and you had to compete with Avengers for that men child audience.
  15. Long Shot better than -40% looking not that good is because this weekend is a strong one for a movie like this. The Hustle did almost the same has the 7% on Rotten tomatoes Hot Pursuit: https://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=witherspoonvergara.htm Opening Weekend: $13,942,258 https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/dont_mess_with_texas_2014 For probably very similar reason, perfect weekend for the release, star power, being a comedy and one of the style / targeting an audience that is really review robust. Hathaway is a movie star in that genre. Why Long Shot didn't open better is a good question and a bigger mystery than why Hot Pursuit/Hustle achieved to go over 13m. Maybe we are simply over analyzing something has simple, End Game was so monstrous and Rogen audience overlap a lot with Marvel, that a big part of the movie natural audience was shared and not really counter-programming. That was Long Shot movie demo: Females over 25 numbered 39%, males over 25 were 33%, females under 25 were 16%, and males under 25 were 12%. Sixty one percent were Caucasian, 20% Hispanic, 10% Asian and 7% African American. 55% female is low for a rom-com, Isn't it romantic was like 70% female, Trainwreck 66% female, Crazy rich Asian 68%, Overboard 59% female, so it didn<t really play like a rom-com but neither has a Rogen comedy, sitting between the 2. I think one reason could be the more complex high concept than the usual recent comedy, that have extremely simple one like Blockers, Tag, Game Night
  16. You mean ott-SVOD: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Over-the-top_media_services ( streaming media as a standalone product directly to viewers over the Internet) Usually called OTT for short., it is now a lot bigger than dvd/bluray and look like this according to. https://www.degonline.org/portfolio_page/deg-year-end-2018-home-entertainment-report/ In 2017 for disney studio entertainment division revenues: Studio Entertainment Theatrical distribution $ 2,903 Home entertainment $1,798 TV/SVOD distribution and other: $3,678 Streaming was the biggest revenues segment for their movies and growing. TV seem now to be twice has big has dvds.
  17. Streaming media is multimedia that is constantly received by and presented to an end-user while being delivered by a provider. The verb "to stream" refers to the process of delivering or obtaining media in this manner most of the delivery systems are either inherently streaming (e.g. radio, television, streaming apps) or inherently non-streaming (e.g. books, video cassettes, audio CDs). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streaming_media I am not sure how much it changed over time, but almost all ? I imagine there is some non-streaming going on in that division, but most of what client pay at the end is for streaming content. Ancien over the air television-radio are the most pure streaming media of them all. A lot of the 10b in the studio ent come from it also, making profit from it in 2030 will be quite important for Disney.
  18. Streaming content is the biggest source of revenue for a company like Disney, Revenu last year for disney: Media network: 24.5 b Parks: 20.3b Studio ent: 10b consumer product-interactive media: 4.65b And they just expended their world media footprint by a lot and spent 70B on it buying Fox. Studios will try really hard for every dollar getting away from the 200 billion paid TV business to shift it and still make it over the top streaming (by distributing internet themselve or using that saving on their advantage), people will most likely pay the same if not more in most market than before when you consider their Internet service cost. They can raise the price also I imagine.
  19. Jurassic Parks movies did beat the OW 2 times after the release of the first one, they are not WOM phenomenom, huge fan base. JW 2 was better than the first imo, by a good amount, Bayona > Trevorrow (and it is not close).
  20. Considering people were paying that price for TV why would they not for a more coveniant service with more content ? Cheaper was not much of an option, that was just a phase for already monetized content. Streaming has been going on for 70 year's, over the internet or broadband isn't some big difference blogger make it sound like, it is almost exactly the same but worst for live event better for non-live event.
  21. Has you said floor mean worst case scenario, what a movie end up doing is not necessarily the worst case scenario. Someone last year saying that End Game floor was 350m does not become correct if the movie does it.
  22. A 2h20 more rewatchable End Game could have I imagine, something that combine must see a la Avenger with anyone can go watch it without having seen previous huge resistance a la Black Panther/Guardian 1/Venom/etc... can probably do it, they are not that far. Avenger 4 or 5 by JJ Abrams with a return of the original big 3 and Jackman has Wolverine, Reynolds has Deadpool in it.
  23. Disney had spent 200m Dumbo 2 year's before it's release, deadline said 170m at one point: https://deadline.com/2019/03/dumbo-box-office-results-disney-us-jordan-peele-weekend-1202584883/ After shelling out $170M to make a movie based on a 78-year old Disney cornerstone character, this can’t be celebrated as a grand slam in the wake of Beauty and the Beast, Jungle Book, Cinderella, and Maleficent Same for LA Time: https://www.latimes.com/business/hollywood/la-fi-ct-box-office-dumbo-us-20190327-story.html
