One reason I'm not ruling out Comic-Con is that they showed early footage for Justice League back in 2016 which had the same gap between SDCC and its release date (16 months) as this movie will. I guess the main difference is that they had been shooting JL for 3 months as opposed to 1, and the only other DCEU movie that they showcased there was WW whereas this year they will have Aquaman and Shazam.

I'm fearful for this movie too, but yeah, the August release date on its own is not a concern for me. In fact, I'm thankful Fox recognised that August is a perfectly viable slot for tentpole films because I don't understand how last August and this August are so barren in terms of big studio productions given how successful SS and GOTG were. The issue is that it's the one occasion in recent years when August is pretty stacked, with Hobbs and Shaw, Dora the Explorer, Artemis Fowl, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood all currently opening in the space of a fortnight.

Of the 3 animated trailers that have come out this week, this is probably by favorite. I'm still looking forward to Ralph Breaks the Internet more, but I'm really impressed with the animation style here, the comedic moments were pretty effective and it seems to be taking the Spider-Man property in a very intriguing direction.

Mortal Engines | December 14, 2018 | Universal

I wish one of the December tentpoles had been ready for an August release because the latter month is looking really barren and in need of a blockbuster. Bumblebee could've potentially thrived in that month. I think this is going to be the biggest loser of the crowded Christmas schedule. It looks like something that should've come out 5 years ago. -

I'm pleasantly surprised by the fact that this looks pretty decent, although I had faith in Travis Knight to do something interesting with this property. It may be following the route of movies like HTTYD, Pete's Dragon, The Iron Giant, etc. in regards to the story, but at least this creates the prospect of becoming emotionally attached to the characters of a Transformers movie which has been completely absent in the previous entries. Knight seems to have a handle on action scenes too judging by some of the shots in the teaser. I'm still a bit concerned about the release date in regards to its box-office prospects but I'm much more optimistic now than I was 24 hours ago. -
With the recent Disney animated movies the trailers tend to avoid giving away too many plot details, but whereas the marketing for previous movies like Frozen and Moana has somewhat misrepresented the tone and relied on too much slapstick humor, this seems to be wisely following the Zootopia model of relying on one or two killer extended comedic moments (the bunny gag in the teaser and the princess scene in this one) which appeal to both kids and parents.
