  1. I loved that small detail! However, I also expected Pocahontas to be surrounded by the fall-colored leaves that usually floatd around her in her film.
  2. Let's not pretend that this does not pretty much look like a gender-swapped version of Shia's story in the first film, minus the evil Transformers. I can't imagine what will make this suddenly want America to embrace a franchise that everyone has abandoned.
  3. I agree with EC: this is going to be way bigger than the first film. I would not be surprised by a Shrek-2-level increase over the original (which means WIR2 will make over 300 million domestically and over 800 worldwide). And it will be all thanks to one thing: Disney Princesses.
  4. Funny how one of the biggest Marvel zombies here (yes, Futurist^^^) keeps acting as if he were the authority on "quality narrative and filmmaking." Because we all know that Marvel comic book films is masterpiece-level quality filmmaking.
  5. Are Overboard, Breaking In, and Life of the Party officially considered hits? Their holds for the past two weekends have been quite solid. It's clear that word of mouth has been stronger that many (me included) expected...
  6. Did Book Club really go from 2.8 last Friday to 2.1 yesterday? Damn. Talk about holding power...
  7. True! And a new classic was born (complete with a classic scene --No Man's Land--- added to the Most iconic Scenes In Cinema History list) Did anyone really expect that a Wonder Woman film would end up grossing 820 million dollars and become a cultural phenmenon? I sure as heck did not, but then again, I didn't expect it to be good either (after the DCEU's less-than-stellar record).
  8. Just wait until Jlaw is cast as Samantha Fox in the definitive biopic of the eighties three-hit wonder pop music bimbo.
  9. Indira Ghandi was assassinated and the AIDS virus was first IDd. I also wonder if those events (or others) will be highlighted for the movie...
  10. 27 Truth or Dare Uni. $40,577,205 3,068 $18,667,8553,0294/13 Over 80 million worldwide on a 3.5 million budget. The Blumhouse hit machine strikes again. When can we expect TOD2?
  11. LOL Every moment counts, especially when it comes to DCEU. Expect this thread to grow at least 500 pages between now and November 2019, with roughly 70 % of that being anti-DC vitriol...
  12. It was bound the happen (the moment they announced Snyder would officially be back as producer for WW2).
  13. Book Club is doing a mini-Mamma Mia!!!
  14. LOL I cannot believe that some people still think that JL's biggest problem was Whedon's involvement. Did these people miss Man of Steel and Batman V Superman?
  15. Wasn't the Death Wish remake dismissed/bashed by a lot of people for allegedly being "pro alt right," "pro gun" and racist? It will be interesting to see how people respond to a film in which, once again, a heroic white protagonist mows down a bunch of those evil people of color for being evil. Personally, I was hoping for the villains NOT to be people of color, and I am surprised that in 2018, especially with the anti-Latino narrative that the age of Trumpster has brought forth, a film like this was greenlit.
  16. Didn't you say that Wonder Woman looked bad? Yeah, I will definitely not trust your opinions when it comes to action heroine films...
  17. I saw it. Carol too. Both awful examples of why I don't care for her acting Scenery-chewing is not the same as emanating genuine emotion. I don't understand why people think that "BIG" acting flourishes equals actual good acting. To each their own, I guess.
  18. Nah. I hate Futurist's usual snark, but I agree with him in this respect. Blanchett is still the kind of show-offy ACTRESS-WITH-A-CAPITAL-A that constantly generates the kind of scenery-chewing sparks that impress easily impressionable theatre aficionados and snobby film critics, but leave audiences cold. She may be a fantastic technical actress, but emotionally, she is as warm as a piece of frozen balsa wood. Just my opinion, but whatever.
  19. Disney should seriously create some sort of Princesses as superheroines alternate universe line. Talk about a license to print money.
  20. Again, who cares if it reminds people of X film? The top grossing films of all time list is full of films that are based on the template of countless other films. Are we not aware by now that what truly matters is not whether a film is "unique and original" but how it is executed and how compelling the characters are? Plus, Punisher did not invent the concept of "vigilante sets out to avenge his slain family" anyway... By the way, I love the tagline ("the system failed; she won't"). And I love the concept of that poster, although the execution seems a tad wonky to me...
