  1. I am going to laugh so much when Avatar 2 makes a killing and all the anti-Avatar haters try to explain how a sequel to a film whose characters "nobody remembers" destroys the box office. It will be fun to read all the excuses and justifications.
  2. I still don't get why MPR is being so overpredicted. Looks decent enough, but I don't see this must-see thing that everyone is going to want to check out.
  3. If Hollywood nurtured young talent of color with the frequency they normally do with white actors (Jeremy Jordan, Zach Efron, etc.), we would have a young Latino singing star by now. Diego Boneta, for example, like Efron, is very talented as an actor and a singer, but unlike Efron, he has not gotten that many offers for big budget films. But luckily, this musical itself is the brand that people will be attracted to, and the potential stars (Jlo, for example) will just be added bonuses.
  4. Wasn't there a Spanish film called "La monja" (The Nun) that featured a nun spirit that was for some reason fond of water? I distinctly remember seeing some clips on Youtube (there was a decapitation in a bathroom), but they are gone. Is this a remake of that? Does anyone remember that film or has seen it? Anyone has a link to trailers?
  5. Awesome trailer, but I bet this will be another Cabin in the Woods: the internetz will sing its praises unitil the cows come home and make it look like the biggest thing since sliced bread, but audiences at large will not care.
  6. Oscar Isaac, Gina Rodriguez, Jennifer Lopez (nobody else but Jlo should be Daniela, period), and Rita Moreno as Abuela Claudia... Hollywood better not whitewash this film with people like Jeremy Jordan and Julianne Hough (I swear to God...) There is no way I watch this if they come up with the usual "we want stars that can sell this worldwide" crap excuse...
  7. You do know that one can be both Latino and black, right? Zoe Saldana, Tessa Thompson, Rosario Dawson... Just like one can be both Latino and white, like Edgar Ramirez, Alexis Bledel, Aubrey Plaza... Also, a black name? You mean like a stereotypical name based on how white people think blacks are named, like DeShawn Brown or something?
  8. Same people who signed off on the third-act CGI for 'Wonder Woman.' Seriously, it's like the budget ran out in both films for the final battles... Loved them both to death, but I wished that those third acts had been better rendered.
  9. How many big movie stars do movies that are not crowd-pleasing, non-threatening films that deliver just what they promise? That's exactly how most stars become stars. The moment they start making vanity projects full of "artistic integrity" and "depth," audiences start looking the other way...
  10. The only laughter that I got as a result of having watched the Suspiria remake trailer was when I remembered how laughable the death scenes in the original Suspiria were. Sorry, but no amount of "classic status" can negate that those murder scenes were ridiculous.
  11. It gave me King Kong vibes too, but then again, any film that has a young woman developing a bond with a giant creature (whether that creature be organic or mechanical) will evoke King Kong.
  12. I am going to take back what I said before: this doesn't look to me as amazing as I imagined it would be from all the hyperbole we heard about from CInemaCon. I know it is just a trailer, and therefore not a complete picture of what the actors can do, but based on this short footage, Gaga doesn't look like she is doing that great. Then again, Gal Gadot did not look any kinds of impressive in the trailers for Wonder Woman, and she was indeed absolutely, stunningly captivating in the film. But yeah, Cooper's singing is great (Gaga too, but we already knew that she is a great vocalist).
  13. I gotta say that, as much as I loved both Wonder Woman and Black Panther (my two favorite comic book movies of all time), their final battles were such a letdown (and a lot of it had to do with wonky CGI...and pretty much too much CGI). I hope that WW and Cheetah's fights have more physical-practical effects choreography.
  14. Bingo. His films always have political subtext, but his technical craft and filmmaking skills, as well as his storytelling prowess, are so flawless, that audiences don't care. It's that simple. At the end of the day, he makes solid films, and audiences are simply entertained by them, overlooking any political stuff.
  15. I have seen these types of arguments before, but I totally disagree. I mean, does that mean that the next Avengers villains have to be an even more powerful cosmic being than Thanos (like Eternity or the Beyonder), because, power-wise, nobody can measure up to him? I initially hoped for Ares to be the villain for a potential third Wonder Woman film because I truly felt that he would be her ultimate villain (being an actual god and all), but really...the emotional stakes of a film (any film) don't hinge on how much actual physical power the villain may or may not have. I am sure that, with good writing and compelling characterization, even a "crappy" Wonder Woman villain like Egg-Fu or Mouse man could become a fantastic threat for any WW film. Cheetah, as written in the recent Rucka WW run, has a great relationship to WW that could lead to a phenomenally compelling movie portrayal. Regardless of Cheetah being less of a physical threat to Diana than Ares was, if the film convinces me of the emotional stakes at play when these two women face off, I will be satisfied.
  16. I hope not. I enjoyed him in the first film, but no...no more Ares, please. No matter what fanboys tell you, Wonder Woman has plenty of villains with potentially great stories to tell, and Ares already had his time. I don't even want Pascal to play one of Ares's kids (Deimos, Phobos, Eris) hellbent on revenge. I really want this sequel to stay as far away from being seen as a copy of the first film as possible.
  17. I think it's odd how much the consensus on RT mirrors their consensus for Ghostbusters 16: it's pretty much "not as good as the original, but still a decent film," which will most likely not be enough for those who think that gender-swapping a film's concept is a travesty or a "SJW agenda" or whatever...
  18. One of the cool things about the trailer, in my opinion, is that with Spider Gwen and Miles appearing on the big screen, it is clear that the studios are not "afraid" anymore of what many fanboys considered a "dilluting" of a brand when different iterations of iconic superheroes were introduced. Meaning that maybe down the road we might get a Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew) film or a new Supergirl movie, both of which I would love to see.
  19. I'd love to see them, but with Cheetah possibly playing Diana's friend as well as the villain (which will likely create a highly emotional core for the film as it pertains to female friendship and female dynamics), Julia and Vanessa might seem redundant. Believe me, I would love to see them in a WW film, but I want them done right. With Cheetah and possibly Circe in the pic, and who knows what Pedro Pascal plays, plus possibly Steve returning, maybe this is not the right movie to bring in additional characters that, in my opinion, deserve fully fleshed out characterization. Maybe for the third WW film the main supporting cast can be Julia and Vanessa (and if I got to choose, the villains can be Dr. Psycho, and a Dr.Psycho-controlled Vanessa as Silver Swan).
  20. Why does the animation look so much like when you take off your glasses during a 3D film showing? I am not crazy about that, to be frank. I am still not sold on this film, but I am open to Miles Morales being Spidey.
